Time Lapse Animated Images
« on: December 02, 2009, 09:04:33 pm »
The GIF examples below (hope they work in the browser!) were put together using series of renders with different lighting in the case of the "Garden Lights" image, and changing landscape and plant size in the case of the "Waterwise Garden".  The animated GIF format strings them together into a mini movie.  These techniques were used in the web applicaion http://www.synergy.net.au/renovator mentioned it the post about 360 degree movies http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1011.0.html.

Critical with these was to position the still camera in exactly the same postion as the movie camera when it passed at that specific point on the 360 degree track. The bright aqua coloured sky was a requirement as the sky was replaced in the flash animation with that of the movie.

If the GIFs do not animate in the forum, save the file to your PC, right click it and select Open With and choose Internet Explorer or other web browser.

Nice job.....gif's playback fine via/in the forum for me.

Suggestion: try doing one with motion of the sun from sunrise to sunset (at a equinox or similar)....I've done that before after exporting TF model to another 3D app and made a movie....but a .gif would be much smaller file.
Very useful for interior and exterior views to show min./max. of shadows from the sun at various times of the year.  Also helps to decide on windows and eaves overhang sizes.

Hi Doug,

I did have occasion to do a time lapse shadows thrown by trees in a landscape one time, but I had to resort to 3DS trees for it to work. TheTFP photoboard trees cast a shadow but from overhead the trees are just a thin line so looked rediculous and could not be used unfortunately.

They work OK of course from ground or eye level and I have done the same exercise as you mentioned, of sun through windows and size of eaves and also shadows from trees to shade windows. There are several examples of animations like that in the web application that these GIFs were done for. (www.synergy.net.au/renovator)

In the one with the trees at the front of the house (either), I actually used 3DS trees behind the photoboard ones (which were photos from our garden) as they rounded out the shadows better.

Incidentally, the main rotation movies for the Flash application took 6 hours each to generate! Very frustrating to get to the end (next morning) and find you had left some thing turned off that shoould have been on - did that a few times!!!

Allan.
