Setting the transparency, shininess and brightness of textures is buried quite deep so if you have not found this yet the image below may help.  On the final step the settingts in the dropdown list (dull, shiny etc) may suffice but if you need finer control then use the slider controlls.

Specular (Shininess) does not need much <10% for varnished timber for example

Emissive also need very little depending obviously on what you are doing. I found only 1-4% was needed to make lights look as though they are on - the light itself does not make the lamp shade bright.

Transparency needs quite a but to create a transparent looking fabric for example (50 - 90%)

I haven't played with Colour Bleed yet.
