Location viewing
« on: March 08, 2010, 11:31:44 pm »
I have a drawing with 5 locations and I am having difficulty viewing all locations together in 2D plan view. I've tried the view filter but don't seem to be able to view anything but the location selected on the toolbar. The only way I can seem to do it is by Settings-Programme settings-Workspace-Dimming percentage-0. This does not seem quite right and doesn't show the dimensions. Any ideas?

Hi Edward,

Welcome to the Forum!

Setting the Dimming to 0 should make all the locations visible and printable and this is the proper way to do it.  The View Filter just enables you to turn locations (or various elements on all or selected locations), on or off.

Not sure what your problem is with Dimensions. They should not be affected by the Dimming, but can be turned on or off in the View Filter (Notations tab) - did you accidentally turn them off there possibly?

Let us know how you go with it.

Thanks Allan,

Ok -  but I'm stiill having problems with dimensions
.
The option to hide/display the dimensions in the view filter only seems to apply to the selected loation on the main view.

1. All locations have external dimensions marked.
2. When dimming is set to 0, dimmensions only appear on the selected location.
3. I checked that they are all on in each location of the viewing filter.

I'm getting seriously confused here! ??? ???

Hi Edward,

Dimensions can be confusing, probably because they are a 2D item in a 3D environment.

Unfortunately what you are finding is how it works - the dimensions only display on one location at a time.  I must admit I was not aware of that until your question - probably because I rarely use the dimensions as most of my work is 3D presentation.

What you may have to do is use the Linear Dimensions tool to add the second floor dimensions on the Ground floor location. These are not quite as convenient as the Auto Exterior Diminesions as you have to apply them individually, but still very easy to do and reposition if necessary (see image).  With Linear Dimensions you can put whatever you want, wherever you want, on the one location and turn it off and on with the View Filter.

Hi Ed!
It look like you need to change the properties for the wall you use. In the properties box click on level and set Define Wall Height use alt. A,
if you choose alt B in the image attached you wall will not be higher than you defined in wall height

Hi Ed,

Robert's suggestion may be the solution. Another possibility is that you changed the Location setting for the walls AFTER you inserted the wall. By default it should be set to Auto Extend and will then extend to location height. Normally you should not have to adjust the wall height settings unless you want a sloping wall or a short wall for some reason.

If you did change the setting after the wall was in place then right click the wall, choose Select all Similar and then Replace and replace with a wall  pre-set to Auto Extend.

If the walls have been changed from the defaul to Level as in Roberts images, then try just changing them to Auto Extend and it may work, otherwide you will have to use the Replace option.

Any new walls you add should be OK as long as they are set to Auto Extend. This will work too if you have a gable end roof - the wall will extend above your 5000 to the height of the gable. If it is set to Level it won't.

Hi Ed,

It should be there. I presume you are using V14 and the Pro version? It was not in V12 and I am not sure if it is available in Delux.

You must select the wall first, then right click. If you are using V12 then select the wall, hold shift and select all the other walls that are the same, one by one, so that they are all selected, then right click and choose Replace.

Hi Ed,

V14 (no V13) was a new version so not an upgrade as such. You should however be able to get it at a discounted rate as a previous user - usually about 2/3 to 3/4 of the price.  Having said that V15 should not be too far away as a new version of its parent product Envisioneer happened a month or two ago and a new version of TFP usually follows after a few months. You may want to wait for that.  Keep an eye on the IMSI Design website - they may even offer V14 with a free or heavily reduced upgrade to V15. Some software companies do that.

You should not need V14 to do what you are trying to do. While you may not have 'Select all similar' you can still do it by shift selecting each wall, then select Replace or even just setting them to Auto Extend (in Properties) may work.
