Cannot inserts floors and/or ceilings
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:46:22 am »
Hi guys,

I'm using the trial version for TurborFloorplanner3D Home and Landscape PRO.  Occasionally  when creating a new plan from scratch (by clicking cancel on the autohelper) the plan appears in 3D with grass as floor, not the default wooden floor that, as I understand it, shall be added on default. When that happen I am unable to insert both floors and ceilings to my drawing.

Tried hard to understand what causes this and I even tried it on a second computer but same error appears. Its a shame because I really like the program and am about to buy it given that this bug do have a solution?

Any ideas?

Best,
Johan

Hi Johan!
I don't think this is a bug only a bad template, have you try to change the template. I also think you have turn of the autofloor in seetings. You can also look in the filter if you have turn of the floor.

Hi Johan,

Welcome to the forum!

Check out the things Robert has suggested as they may help.

I have been using TFP (and its predecessor Floorplan3D) since version 3 (15 years or so?) and have been frequenting the forums all that time too and I have never heard of floors becoming glass before. That would seem to indicate it is not a bug in the program as such but maybe some corruption in the template as Robert suggested, that has occurred during installation or it could be some conflict within the PC itself.

Given it has happened on 2 PCs even that seems a strange coincidence.  Can you select the floor and see the Properties (as glass) or does it just look like glass? If it only looks like glass maybe the floor is not actually there at all (auto insert is off?). The default certainly should be wood and you should be able to insert floors and ceilings and edit them.

Was the download from the IMSI site?  Is it the Pro version? (not Delux or some other variant)  Help / About should tell you that. What is the build number? (full version number especially the last 3 digits).  If it is 624 then there could be issues, as that was patched only a week or so after release with 637.  The latest however is 662 and the patch is linked at the bottom of this forum, but I don't think you can apply the patch to the trial version.  Anyway give us those details first and we can go from there.

One thing you could try straight away that may help, is to turn off Hardware Acceleratrion (or on as the case may be, but default is on). This is in Settings / Program Settings / Graphics.  It could be a dispaly issue that affects some computer video drivers. If that fixes it, you may find things a little slower in moving around, but if you update your video card with the latest drivers it may solve that too and you can turn it on again.

You could also try switching the Template to the metric (or imperial if you are metric already) and this will check if the template is the problem or if you need another one. (Settings/ Program Settings / General).  You could also switch the Catalogue and eliminate any issue with that (File / Catalogues / Open Catalogue).

Let us know how you get on with it.

Hi Allan,

Thanks for your advice. Please not that I wrote "grass" not glass, hence there is no floor at at all. I have not switched of any filters or default. The download was from http://imsidesign.com

Hi,

The Settings/Program Settings.../Terrain, 'Auto-cut terrain around building' is probably Off by default, and the Base Level is 0"

Also the Automatic floor is probably 0" - Settings/Building Locations... Ground Floor, a - Floor Level

So the Grass is probably showing above the Floor as they are at the same level  (in 3D you may see the 2 textures clashing if you move the camera)

So either set 'Auto-cut terrain around building' to On, or elevate the Floor Level slightly (or both)

Another possibility is that the walls have not joined to form a room - so that the Automatic floor hasn't been created.

Hi Johan,

Sorry about the mix up of "grass" and "glass". I will put my glasses on next time!!  Actually I had them on so I can't blame that!  If the floor had been glass the effect would have been the same anyway, as you would see the grass through it,

Steve has a valid point too that if the floor is set at 0 then the Terrain may cover it and prevent you from selecting it also, but by default the floor is set to +300mm (1 foot), so if you have only just got the program I doubt you would have changed that.

I suspect it is probably more than just settings also because you cannot insert floors or ceilings. Here Steve's point about the walls not being joined is important, because the auto floor would not appear and you could not add a floor or ceiling "By Room" or "By Perimeter" although you could still do it by "By Picking Points". Does "Floor by Picking Points" work? Does "Celinging by Picking Points" work?  Anyway just make sure the walls do join.

You did not answer some of the other questions. What is the full version number? and Is it the Pro version?
Also did you try turning off the Hardware Acceleration - that is the most likely quick fix I suspect.
Also did you try swapping the Template and / or Catalogue?  They will help narrow down the issue further, if it is not a HA / video driver issue.
Do you know what sort of video card you have? Does it have its own separate memory or is is shared? Shared types sometimes struggle with 3D programs.

Try those tests and let us know how it goes.
