more FREE 3D models for architecture
« on: April 23, 2010, 04:23:36 pm »
in an earlier thread a few months ago I posted a link to free 3D models but many were not "importable" to TFP.

While this site mentions "free 3D models for Rhinoceros in NURBS",

the models are often available in .3ds format

go here and look around;

More good models and textures - some free
« Reply #2 on: June 06, 2010, 08:55:57 pm »
I came accross a huge selection of 3DS models (many thousands - over 7,000 just cars and car parts for example!).  Many are not free although some are not expensive but if you are looking for something special it may be worth the cost.

There are also thousands of textures on the same site (over 1,000 bricks for example). Some are free, most cheap in the $2 - $5 range (sort by Lower Price) and under Cutouts and Billboards there are over 1,700 images useable as photoboards with some excellent trees and people in all sorts of poses. Some are sets of images - eg 55 high resolution trees for $9. They are beautiful quality and come with a mask so that you can easily change the background to Magenta and save as a BMP so the background becomes transparent in TFP.

Worth a look http://www.the3dstudio.com/ if you want something special.

Try Ikea.  They are in the process of making most of their product line available.  I wrote them a few months ago and suggested it and they got back saying they were in the process of doing it.  Not sure what format they will be using Autocad and or sketchup.

I'm work on IKEA, that was about 1.5 years as i proposed them to make 3ds or BIM of the most common products, so I will check the progress.

Ther is allredy some sketchup files but this I think is not frome IKEA-surce. I knew that they work with 3D and use 3DMAX format but that will not work in TFP, I think it have been better Cadsoft and IMSI/desinge had ad 3DMAX as a import plugin insted of PXF, ther is alot of free 3DMAX out on the net but 00000000 PXF.

I have ask around little,  as I wrote in the last post they use 3DMax to make the elements, but what I knew now is will be converted to other formats, the project still running so the time-frame for the release is unsure.
