« on: May 26, 2010, 04:49:36 pm »
Looking for some recommendations on whether the upgrade from V12 - V15 is worth the cost.   Presently working with V12 to design personal home and would like to here from some of the other users.   Thanks

Just my opinion, nothing more:

I am not one that usually upgrades software every year.  However, this program is so cheap, it makes it much harder to argue not to upgrade.

Whether you are using it for fun (designing personal home as you say) or for profit, you may want to ask yourself how much your time is worth.  This is always the bottom line.  Anything other than a very simple, run-of-the-mill house can be time-consuming to design.  Do you have time to mess around with work-arounds and with trying to diagnose bugs/glitches that may or may not have been addressed with newer versions?  Personally, my time is one thing I value very highly.  I can't see using TFP software any older than last year's model.

Edit: Then again, you may have to learn new tools & interface when you jump a few versions forward.  To each his own, I guess.

Hi Rex,

Just the Window and Door Schedule makes it worth the upgrade. Trying to list those items 'by hand' is not fun. It also 'marks' the windows and doors in plan view so your builder knows where they go.

Upgrade for sure.

Hi Rex,

Welcome to the forum.

V12 - V15 is worth the cost.

It depends very much exactly how you are using it, so it may be a questions of considering the changes listed in the following posts, if you haven't read them already and they may help you decide.

V12 to V14:http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,800.0.html
and http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,974.0.html

V14 to V15:  http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1162.0.html
and http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1170.0.html

Together they cover most of the major changes between V12 and V15 so hopefully you can tell if the changes are worth it.

As Jack demonstrated, some of the changes are real time savers (if you need whatever the functrion is) and as George said "time is money".  My opinion is that the upgrade is worth it, as the programme is very cheap by today's standards and it works the same, so there is not a big learning curve, so it really depends whether you would have a use for the new features.
