More New Features in V15
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:31:56 am »
Jack has listed some of the new features of V15 in this post http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1162.0.html.
Here are a few more you may be interested in.

NEW RENDERING DIALOG FEATURE
You will find at the top right of the dialog box a dropdown list of your cameras. Using this you can quickly switch between cameras without closing the rendering window.  In fact you can do Advanced Render once and, without closing the rendering dialog box, change the camera view and then just use Step 2 to produce the next image which it does very quickly! (Don't forget to change the name of the file however, or the second image with overwrite the first)

You will find some improvements in Advanced Rendering too, allowing a better balance between interior lighting and daylight.  Look out for Jack's upcoming videos for some great rendering tips developed especially for V15.

NEW VIEW FILTER OPTIONS
If you click the arrow next the the View Filter Icon (or go to View / View Filters) and you have options to 'hide the options you select', or 'hide everything except what you select'.  Or you can 'make the item you click not selectable', or 'make everything not selectable except what you click'. You need to open the View Filter itself to reset them.

NEW ROOM DIMENSIONS TOOL
This tool (Tools /Dimensions/ Room Dimensions) gives you the option of clicking on the corners of the room (or any space) and it will insert the dimensions into the space, either length first or width first.

NEW FOOTING OPTIONS
The footings tool now has a dropdown of options allowing you to insert footings anywhere, not just attached to walls. In conjunction with the new Snap Track tool (see Jack's post) it is easy to allign the footings to walls etc.

IMPROVED LANDSCAPE PATH TOOL
If you have had to move landscape paths any time, then you will appreciate the improvements made in V15. Previously to move the path was difficult, as it would easily go 'out of square'.  Now you can right click Lengthen to extend it, or right click Stretch to move the end of it and so change the angle. Simple but effective improvement. You can also right click Move and drag the whole paving element to a new position.

WALL 'DROP FACE'
Reintroduced from V12 is the wall 'drop face' control.  This allows you to set the depth of bricks or siding to hide the floor or foundations in 3D view.

The NEW ROOF MODIFICATION TOOLS that allow you to Move Edge and Move Plane, as discussed in Jack's post, are another major addition. Have a play with them, as they extend the roof capabilities dramatically.  Now you can just drag the edge you want and the roof will go below wall height if you want - so much easier than having to set up new locations etc.

Have fun with the new options.

Rendering Problems
« Reply #1 on: July 23, 2010, 04:41:49 pm »
 Mr. Chesney :

I was rendering my bedroom.   It came out (fairly) nicely, except for a
        discoloration on the bed.
Could you explain what might be the cause of this ?
Otherwise, I'm satisfied with the reuslts.

While I doubt this is the best place for your question (should be under Need Help),

the "discoloration" is simply the bed reflecting the surroundings.

Fix it by adjusting materials applied to bed to have little or no reflection (set it properties dialogs; see other posts for examples...emissivity is a recent example)...as you may notice in most houses the bed covers are of cloth which has virtually no reflective (unlike a mirror) or transparency.
