I've recently started using Floorplan V9. I've previously used Version 11, and assumed Version 9 would operate in much the same way. I'm haveing a couple of problems that I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with.

When it comes to placing internal walls, and trying to branch one straight from a corner, the programme only lets me put them at angles. I'm also struggling to get the whole floorplan to appear in black and white.

I'm only using the software to produce black and white floorplans, and thought that the earlier version of the programme would enable me to do this no problem, but unfortuantely, I'm really struggling.

I'd be grateful for any help.

Thank you
Lauren

Hi Lauren,

Welcome to the forum.

I think I had nearly all the versions of FloorPlan 3d except V9! Soon after it's release there were many reports of little problems here and there, so I decided to wait for the next version, which was excellent, as was V11.  Why have you gone back to V9 if you have V11?

I do not recall any specific reports of problems with V9 as far as joining walls is concerned. All versions were a little bit of a problem on corners but much easier if you join the wall to the flat part of the wall and drag it up to the corner, or start out from the corner and draw the wall towards the corner. To draw the wall from the corner OUT would often go at an angle, so start away from the corner and draw your wall TO the corner.

Are you printing the plans on using them on-screen?  If you are printing, then you should be able to set the printer to print in black ink only.  I am struggling to remember what functionality was available, as it was so long ago, but I seem to recall that you can also export the plan as a DXF file, which would be black but you would need suitable software to open it. PaintShop Pro, presumably Photoshop and maybe some other image editors, would open it, as would other CAD programs.  I don't recall there being a way to change the line colours of the 2D plan. In V12 -V15 this is very easy to do - you can make any line any colour you want and there is certainly no problem joining walls at corners or anywhere.  Walls are probably the biggest change from earlier versions.

If you have are going to do more of this type of work, you may want to consider getting V15 (or even V12 or V14 which you could probably pick up quite cheaply now that V15 is out).  They are MUCH, MUCH more functional than v11 and earlier versions. They are very similar to use, so no big learning curve, but they will NOT open versions older than V12 so would only be suitable for new projects.

I hope that was of some help.

Hi Allan,

That sounds like good advice. I went to V9 because I switched jobs and had found that V11 had so many features I didn't need and I thought (mistakenly!) that V9 would be simpler!

With regards to dragging walls towards the corners, I've tried to no avail!

I'm using the floorplans both on screen and printed. I've found I can print them and set the printer to black and white, then scan them back in and use the scanned version - just a long winded way of doing something that was so simple in V11!

Looks like I'm going to have to get a more recent version - think I'll go for 11 as I've used it before and know it does what I want!

Thank you for your help
Lauren

Hi Lauren,

I just had a quick look on Amazon and they have new copies of V12 for only $9.99 (http://www.amazon.com/Turbofloorplan-Home-Landscape-Pro-V12/dp/B000VPVNSC).  I can assure you that the walls work much better than V11. If you want to connect another wall into a corner you simply click on the wall and drag the end of the wall to wherever you want. You can also move whole sets of walls, duplicate them, mirror them and rotate them, singly or as a group.  You can also replicate all or eny of them to other floors and you can curve walls to. Simply right click, select Curve and drag the centre of the wall and it will curve, in or out, as far as you drag it.

As far as the plans are concerned, you can export the plan as JPG, BMP, TGA or DXF as well as several 3D formats.  As mentioned before you can also change all the lines that make up the walls to black if you want or you can set the walls to solid black.

However, if you need to reuse existing V9-11 plans then V12 will not open them, but you can trace them from one of your scans or you can import a DXF (if V9 does do the export to DXF).
