turbo plan pro - weird edging
« on: July 23, 2010, 12:20:17 pm »
i put the pieces of edging one after the other.
but try and move them - arrow or mouse - and they just stretch out to the sides!
what i would like is curves in the edging. first one way then the other in a long ess shape
on one piece there is a curve tool
and it would be nice to be able to join several bits and resize them
thanks all

Dead easy, just draw the edging roughly to shape, right click the section you want to bend, and select Curve. You can then just drag the curve to where you want it.

Walls, ceilgings, even edges of the roof can be done the same way. There are lots of extras on the right click and double clicks within dialog boxes.

Hi
To make a ess-curve on a edging, you have to break the line in 2 pisec (image 1), you can do very complicated forms with a combine of break, curved line and rotate. Look at image 2-3.

Alongside the Edge tool is the Fill tool. You can use this to fill areas between your Edging. Like the edge tool, just click  roughly to shape and then right click the edge of the fill to Curve it.

You can also use walls (set to very low and with the baseboard turned off) to make garden  edges, where you want some thickness. These can be curved in the same way. You may have to delete the floor or simply make that into the garden bed, especially if you want it raised a little. The Fill tool cannot be elevated but it will follow the Terrain if you have a hill or slope.

nothing works yet!
when i try to move a part of the edging- it just explodes wide left and right.
vista 64 - turboplan pro 15
i tried a new file incase the old file was the problem.
blank screen- insert -etc
would not let me make several pieces in a line ONLY at right angles.
try to move it sideways and it only goes up and down,
kinda glad this software is only on trial - it sure needs work.
thanks

I have a suspicion it may be just the way you are using the edge tool.

would not let me make several pieces in a line ONLY at right angles.
try to move it sideways and it only goes up and down,

First I can assure you that these tools work perfectly, so it is just the way you are using them (unless there is a video card issue as Robert referred to but I suspect that may not be the case).
Some of the things you describe indicate that you have ORTHO turned on (right end of Status bar at the bottom of the screen). This is used to make sure you get walls etc at right angles. Turn it off and you can put things at any angle.

Also sounds as though you are inserting the edging in short sections (or this may be just becasue you had Ortho on). All you do is click on the screen, then click again a bit further on (at any angle), then again, and again, and it will join the clicks together with your edge and right click when you have finished. Now if you want to curve the sections, right click and select Curve as was mentioned earlier.  If you need to,  you can right click, select Break and click into one of the sections to insert a break point, then you can curve each side of the break.

Try that (Ortho off) as I suspect that is the problem.

ortho WAS on for the new file.
now i can go at any angle.
but how do i move it? - answer select the whole thing!
changing the size of one piece seems to snap the whole thing!
thanks

On every line you have 3 dots one in each end and one in the middle use the middle to move the line the 2 other stretch the line.

Hi Again,

can i add to the edging so it all stays as one?
can i keep it joined when i expand one piece - say with a piece each side?

Yes you can, as long as, when you add a new piece to the existing, that you click to the end point of the previous section. You will get a black square on each end - they are the 'snap points'  - click into those and it will lock (V15 only - not in V14 or previous versions).

It will all stay joined as long as you had it joined in the first place, but you can only expand one section at a time. If you select the centre point of one edge (as Robert described) and drage it the two sides attached will lengthen or shrink depended which way you move. The attached image should show how it works.  All things works almost exactly the same way - Walls, Ceilings, Roof, Fill, Paths - they are extend, drag, curve etc in the same way. Why not start a blank project and just play with it, try everything, so you see how it works, then go back to the one you are working on?

Also check that you turn off "snap", especially if your grid is large....that will cause moving points to jump to undesired locations.
