Problems with Rendering A Bedroom
« on: July 23, 2010, 04:46:06 pm »

I'm currently going through the process of rendering some of the rooms in my  "creation".
The problem I'm having is a discoloration on the bedcovering.
I've tried different settings in the rendering box.
Otherwise,  I'm happy with the results.
Take a  look at the attached pic and, maybe you can take a guess at what  could
   be the problem.
                                                                                      Thanks,
                                                                                        garystan

One more thing, fellow Turbos (excuse the terminology)...........

When I was taking a close look at that pic,  it looked to me like , instead of a
discoloration, it more looked like a discolored reflection of the lamp and headbord.
See the attached pic in my last message.

Hi garystan,

Check the texture used on the Appearance tab for the bed. It is obviously set to shiny. Change the drop down list at the bottom to Dull.

     Allan :

That's excactly what I did.   And that was the solution .
Apparently , the material was (somehow) set to reflective......or was it
                  gloss.
                     Anyway........thanks !

Hi garystan

You will notice to the right of the dropdown list is a little check box labelled "Display Settingd Details".
If you tick this box it will display a set of  sliders so you can adjust the level of shininess (Specular), Transparency and brightness (Emmissive). The latter makes a surface glow.  If applied to your lampshade for example, it will appear bright, as though the fabric was a light colour and the light was shining through it. It must however be used cautiously as it only need very little to make it very bright and it can affect overall brightness and render time too.

Nearly ALL the material in the program that 'could' be considered as needed 'shine' have Specular set to 15 by default.

15 is way to shinny. Check floor tile, hardwood flooring, wood (for example) and move the setting down to 2 in most cases.
