Shiny Surfaces
« on: July 24, 2010, 11:17:38 am »

How do you control the  "refections"  from surfaces ?  Such as flooring tiles and windows.
As I applied the different surfaces to an area,   I tried editing the characteristic of it.
Like windows.......I'd like to make them  less reflective and more transparent.   Same thing
for floors.   So there isn't so much "mirror" effect on the floor.
Sometimes , all that reflectivity can be distracting in the final render.   Other times it's a
      nice effect.....depending.

                                                                                                          garystan

Hi Garystan!
First all controls for items from catalog is made in  properties fore the specific items. IMPORTANT!!!! be sure you have save a copy of your catalogs and materials. Bigger catalog (kb, Mb)=slower program, to big program crash, but just now I don't know the limit in TFP15 but it is bigger than TFP12-14.

You have 4 way to do this.

1. In the drawing right click on the item you will change anything on. Select properties in the menu
2. Dbl-click on the items in the catalog
3. Use the Element manger, under Catalog in file menu
4. Use the Library manger, under Catalog in file menu
All this do nearly the same, but option  2 ,3 and 4 change the Catalog and option 1 only the drawing
I will try to sort the different options in the catalog for you, all post with a + is a options in the properties for the item.
+  Select on of the tabs " [Basic] [Top and Bottom] [Trim] [Appearance] [Quantity] (Framing member)"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tab/buttonUse to change:
BasicCore, her is a new option in TFP15 you can set the Exterior mtrl. to apply on the inside, without to change inside mtrl. under Appearance tab. Great for log-walls
Top and BottomChange  the top and bottom side of the wall, defult=Auto extend for top  and Level for bottom
TrimTo change member for the different type of trims
AppearanceThis is the most important dialog for surfaces, her can you select different material (mtrl.) for your items, more on this down under
QuantityTo set specification for the items for the Analyse dialog
ButtonsOpen up more options for the items
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now to your question, how to change the reflection for the surfaces:

Use one of the options above, I recommend option 1 or 2 if you not will change the reflections for the mtrl. for the hole catalog.
Option 4= Appearance  use this for new mtrl. and floorboards etc. will change the default mtrl for the catalog in all drawings after this change.
For option 1 to 3

Select Tab Appearance:
1. Select one of the components.

The wall left and right side can be different side depends how you draw the wall from the bottom to top, left yo right or vice versa. Look it as you are the pen walking forward in the drawing, the left hand will always be the left side of the wall and right hand will be right side of the wall

2. Select Material (work the same way  as in Library, but will not change the default material. for the program, only for the drawing)
3.Right click on the materials, select Edit material or Left click on the big image of the material
4. You will now see the properties for the material, to change the reflection there is one simple and on advance.
5. Go to Rendering Effects, Simple way= select preset effects in the drop down menu, the advance= mark Display settings details.
This is the 2 only options to change how the material work the you rendering. Experiment with the settings.

Hi garystan,

How do you control the  "refections"  from surfaces ?....
I'd like to make them  less reflective and more transparent.

This post, and image, probably answers this basic question:http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,107.0.html.

As Robert indicated changes like this to a material does affect the catalogue - when you use the same texture next time it will be as you have adjusted it this time, so if you want to use the original one again as it was you must save another copy (right click - Add Element).

By the way, if you use the forum 'Search' you will find many questions are already covered.

Apparently, the setting for that material was set to reflective......or was it gloss.
               But  I noticed that.....after-the-fact.
