Import Alighning
« on: August 03, 2010, 02:32:45 am »
Hi

I am busy trying out the trial of Turbofloorplan 3D

When I import a scanned drawing of a floorplan, and I want to move it to line it up with my existing drawing, it disappears completely when I want to move it. Just the outline of the complete image is visible. That makes it difficult to align it.

Is there any way to keep the image that I want to align or trace visible while moving it?

It would be nice if the imported image could just become transparent, but still still stay visible.

Thanx

Hi Meneer,

Welcome to the forum!

Normally the image would be imported first, positioned in the centre of the Terrain and then the model drawn by tracing the image, so the problem you have would not exist.  The other factor is that the image used needs to be cropped to the very edge of the plan that is on the image, so that you can size it correctly.  For example, if the plan was of a rectangular building 15 metres by 10 metres, then you could crop the image exactly along these walls and then size the image during import to 15m x 10m. That makes the scale of the image correct, so you can trace the plan and the sizes will be correct.  This also means that the outline of the image that you see when you move it, is the outer edge of the walls, so you can still position it.  You may be able to size it to fit afterwards but it is going to be difficult.

There are a couple of solutions that may work for you:

1)  Use a photo editor (eg Microsoft Paint) to crop your image to a rectangle that is the two widest parts of the plan and import that instead. You can then align the outline with the outer edges of your model and re-size it to match if necessary.

2)  Select All your model and move it to align with the trace image.  If you are using multiple locations you will have to UN-tick the second box on Settings/ Program Settings / Building Aids so that you can move all locations at once.  Don't forget to tick the box again afterwards.

Re Seeing walls on thetrace image
So that your walls are easily visible on top of the trace image, you can turn on Solid Fill on the walls (Appearance - 2D Core setting -  See Image below) and in Settings / Programme Settings / Building Aids - tick the Enable Solid Fill box. If you UN-Tick this box after you finish tracing, it will turn all the solid fill off on all the walls (if you don't want it).

So that you do not accidentally keep selecting the image and moving it, use View Filter / Annotation tab and click the little 'filter' icon - you can not select the image then. Click the 'eye' icon to turn the image off or just delete it when you are finished.

Hope that helps,

Allan
