Print problem - with elevation views
« on: August 11, 2010, 07:05:13 am »
I have the left elevation view showing and selected "print", selected "print area" = Window and on prompt select the window section I wanted to print.

As of this point nothing is showing anymore in my left elevation, other elevation show fine, 2d and 3d views are fine.

1. how can I reset this so the left elevation shows again
2. when I managed to print the left elevation ("Display" instead of "Window") the door located in the foundation/basement only showed about a third of its size, i.e. the top 2 thirds where not printed even so they showed on the display.

I am using TFP 3d evalutation Pro on Windows 7 64bit.

Hi Werner,

Sorry but I am having a little difficulty following your description of what has happened.

As of this point nothing is showing anymore in my left elevation, other elevation show fine, 2d and 3d views are fine.
Do you mean that now, when you select left elevation from the list, that nothing displays on the screen, or that it does not appear in the print preview or on the paper?

Any elevation always shows everything from that side - could there be a something (eg a stray wall) blocking the new of the building. If you are talking about the screen view not being there, could you post a screen print so we can see what we are seeing (or not seeing!)?

2. when I managed to print the left elevation ("Display" instead of "Window") the door located in the foundation/basement only showed about a third of its size, i.e. the top 2 thirds where not printed even so they showed on the display.
Again it would help to see a screen image and scan of the print if possible so they can be compared.  It is hard to diagnose such things when we cannot actually see what you see.

Tried to get you a PDF showing you the door print issue using the rear view but as the "window" area selection was still in my print options, now the rear view "has gone" too.

Hi Werner,

OK - What happens if you do a Section View - do you get anything then?

When you get a blank screen, and presumably a blank Print Preview, does it actually still print anything?

Have you had display issues anywhere else? (eg Dialog boxes not displaying properly, or camera view disappearing).

For diagnosis purposes can you see if your elevations display with Hardware Acceleration turned off (Settings / Programme Settings / Graphics)?

If it works then (with HA off) it indicates issues with the PC, that are often fixed by updating the video card drivers. I am not the one to investigate that with you, Pat will no doubt see this and help you, but I know he will require a few PC details, Operating system, Processor, RAM, Video RAM etc.

In section view the display is fine, printing of it is fine with the exception of the door in the basement - will try to get you a PDF to show this (hopefully later today).

No, nothing is shown or printed.

Have you had display issues anywhere else? (eg Dialog boxes not displaying properly, or camera view disappearing).

No other display issues and it doesn't wirk with HA turned off.

PC Info (brand new machine as of about 10 days ago, as my other PC crashed on which I had started to evaluate TFP):
- Sony Vaio with Intel i5 core
- 4 GB RAM
- GeForce GT 330M with 1GB video RAM
- Windows 7 64 bit

All drivers are up to date.

Another issue with printing from TFP was with print area set to "all extends", "print to scale 1=50 and center on paper TFP would hang the machine, e.g. even ctrl-alt-del wouldn't allow me to kill the process.

The project I am doing all this tests on is very simple, a basement of 4 x 5 meters with a ground floor of 2 x 2.5 meters.

Tried to run TFP in Vista compatibility mode, but no change.

Printing is always to a Canon Inkjet PIXMA iP3000.

BTW, thanks for your fast replies to all this and my other questions.

Hi Werner,

Sounds odd - PC certainly sound OK.

If you do not mind, please post a copy of your BLD file so I can try it here - this is often the quickest way to diagnose things. If you prefer, email it to me (alches(AT)iinet.net.au - replace (AT) with @ of course).
