tfp v15.0.c2.770 CounterTops bug
« on: August 13, 2010, 07:38:11 pm »
Just upgraded to v 15 today and opened a model from v14.
A breakfast bar countertop had disappeared and changed it's self into a plain countertop with back splash and a square end.

Edited the object it looked fine, but the changes would not take.

Created a new countertop object and it still insisted on having a back splash and a square end.

Hi,

Yes this is a known bug. It also appeared in the parent program Envisioneer, so we are awaiting a fix like the Envisioneer users.

The good news is that you can use a piece of floor in the meantime. It should do what your want and is probably more flexible too, especially if you have an unusual shaped counter top.

Use Floor by Picking Points, draw the shape (outside the model), drag it to size, curve any edges, set thickness and Appearance and then elevate and move it into position. See the image.  You may also find the PDF in this post useful too (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1130.0.html) but in your case you do not need to export and import again, unless you want to add this countertop to your catalogue for future use.

I assume you do not have a sink in this counter top. If you do, ask again and I will explain how you can do it.

Hope that gets you around the problem.

Good to know it's not just me.

Did they fix the stair rails yet?  That bug has been around for a long time since it was 3D home architect. The problem was also in Envisioneer. That and a couple of other bugs was the reason I didn't buy Envisioneer.  That and the fact this is the same as it and a lot cheaper.

I am not aware of a bug with the stair rails.  I must admit I rarely use them though - most places in Australia are single storey.

What was the stair rail problem?

I agree - if you are not wanting to print extensive construction plans, TFP is a good buy!

In a 3D view they don't meet the landing rail right at the top of the stairs. Too high.

Where I am we are similar, mainly single storey but have some split levels and decks with stairs.
We don't build much with wood, mostly concrete and steel.  If we did use wood at least our carpenters know how to do a join properly so most of those detail drawings many areas require are not needed. Never used anyways.

Yes the stair rail bug is still there if you just use the default settings. You can of course increase the height of the top post so it lines up or, if has to align with rails on the second level, you can lower the height of the rail. This seems to get around the problem.  I had not noticed it before, which shows how much I use the stairs!  I think when I have used them I have just used a continuous rail and added posts of my own at the top and bottom - with a ball on top of the posts.

Yes, I know one has to play around with it, to get it right for any client presentation. The problem appears to be that it puts the first post on the bottom step and then adds the total rise. Rather than subtracting the height of the first step, or placing the post in front of the first step. I'm not sure what building codes dictate for measurement standards.

The rendering is what bought the program, as this model, a town/row house, had a problem with the original design, during the late afternoon the light coming down the stair well caused a high intensity reflection off the bathroom mirror into the bedroom.  But replacing the glass of the bathroom window which opens into the stairwell with a frosted or tinted glass fixed the problem.

Now if they would only place photoboards on location rather than terrain.

Now if they would only place photoboards on location rather than terrain.

You can put photoboards on location if you import them into the Catalogue Photoboards group in Materials list.

There are a couple of differences with their use however:

1.  You have to apply them to a surface. If you want it freestanding, (eg a plant to go into a 3D vase), you have to apply the plant image to a 'box'. The best solution to that is to use the Box in 3D Shapes (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,315.0.html). If it is something you are going to use frequently then save the box in your Interior Accessories with the image on it and you can just use it whenever you want. Make the Box VERY THIN or you will see it on the edge too as the image is applied on all sides of this box. If that is a problem use a box with multiple faces (eg Decorative Member in Interior Accessories) and set all the other sides to Transparent.

2.  They will not autorotate. If you move the camera you may have to turn them as you would turn any other element.

Doing the photoboards this way means they can be turned on and off like any other location element.
