Wall length/angle, manual input via keyboard?
« on: September 26, 2007, 01:52:19 am »
I know I should see how it is done but I am feeling a bit thick this week.  Can anyone point me in the right direction before I forget where the bathroom is?

What glitches Duncan?

I don't think it is fair to make a statement like 'so many glitches' without listing them somewhere. To date the only problem I see is the use of jpg images during rendering.

There is nothing wrong with turning on the Commander in the Program Settings and inputing dimensions of walls + angles.

But you can select a dimension and change wall lengths more accurately that I find little use for the Commander.

I have use jpg then rendering and it works but the only problem is that the jpg take over so it litle difficult to trace, I think one way is to play around whit the settings.

Trace Images
« Reply #6 on: September 26, 2007, 09:37:31 pm »
I've heard some have no problem with doing Rendering to jpg , myself and others get a blank jpg image of O KB. Probably has something to do with video cards.

I think you are also talking about importing jpgs / bmps or tga files for trace images.

For this I go to Settings/  Program Settings / Building Aids and check 'Enable Solid Fill'. IF your walls have been set to show solid fill then checking this box makes tracing easy.

Oddly enough this technique doesn't work if you have Hardware Accelerations turned off. It seems to me that Hardware Acceleration is going to be on ongoing point of discussion on this Forum.

Glitches

Hi Duncan,

Render opitons set to Canada is because the default template used has those settings. Once you set a particular project to a new setting those will be retained when reopened but it is best to go through your settings and adjust them as needed, then save them to your custom template and use that as the 'default' open option.

I have things like precision set to 1/4" instead of the default 1/8"
I have auto save turned off. I've increased the list of recently used files to display, set background to new image etc.

Also by default the Ground Location setting is 1'. That is why some items are above the terrian. That is also why some items, especially in Landscape have the option to place by Location or Terrian. There are also other items that are assumed to be placed on tables and these are automatically higher than 1'.

All I can say about Rendering is it will not generate if you have a 'bad wall' drawn , etc. It will turn out looking bad if your camera is in the wall or piece of furniture. It will be a problem if you don't have Render to File checked.

This kind of reply is very helpful to user of a new program,  even if an "old hand" at 3D or CAD

Every program has its peculiarities which will seem like a bug until its understood or confirmed as a bug or not

Thanks for the info.
