Garage Door Header Isn't Produced for Door Sizes Over 8'x7'
« on: January 20, 2011, 11:08:39 am »
Hello,

I'm a new user to TFP 3D Home & Landscape Pro V15.0C@.770.  I'm looking to have a 16'x12' garage door on a garage that I'm designing, but a header will not show up on the framing.  The only time I see a header show is for a door size of 8'x7'.  If I go to any other "stock" garage door size listed in the catalog, there is no header.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not sure that it is you that is doing something wrong or the program.  I have not noticed this before, since I seldom view framing, but I am getting the same result.  I will look into it further to see what is happening.

In the meantime, try just selecting the one that is working and change the size.

Allen,

Glad you have having the same trouble (well, kind of...lol).  I have changed the size of the door to the 16'x12' that I want, but that is when the header goes away, so that option isn't working for me either.  Is there a way to "hand draw" a header in place using the software and available tools?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I did not try the resize - so that means the issue is in the wall itself. i will try Envisioneer this evening to see if it has the same issue (it is the parent program and has customisable framing - may be a limitation in TFP)

Interior Accessories under Decorative has a Custom Member. You could use this to simulate it but it will turn off too if you use the Show Framing Icon. Jus t turn the wall surfaces off in View Filter and turn framing on there also.

Allan,

Your sugestions worked just fine and I can use this as a final solution if I need too.  Let me know what you find out in Envisioneer.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

I have just experimented with Envisioneer and it has the same issue.  You can change the door to 4241 mm but at 4242 mm the header and side frames disappear.  TFP inherits these things from Envisioneer so I will raise this with Cadsoft. A fix in Envisioneer will flow to TFP.

Hi Jim,

Just a bit more information this one.  Further investigation revealed that Envisioneer has a customisation option for door headers and other framing options so I was able to select a longer header and it displayed OK (although the default option does not).  Obviously TFP needs to default to a longer header also, so I will raise this for possible inclusion in a future update (not the next one though as this is due shortly).

Is there a way to "hand draw" a header in place using the software and available tools?

Draw a line at the same length as the door header in front of the door, with the layout tool convert it to a member same size as the other framing and elevate it correct height and place it in the wall. All this can you do in framing view. You can look in this post and see if you get any ideas http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1307.0.html
