Hi Doug,

I haven't taken the time to try these lights you found out. I was wondering if you have found any that you really like? How do they work in the program?

When I test them I will be sure to report results, they look very interesting.

thanks,

Jack

I was looking for a narrow angle spot light...small halogen type over a picture or for one item track lighting

I tried a few and found one...but was a while back so don't remember details now....project was canceled

Oddly, while some make a difference, unless looking for a very specialized light distribution effect, many are much like picking from the std TFP list.

Most of these are commercial lighting

Thanks for sharing your results.

Since I also use another 3D program called Carrara Studio, and it uses .ies lights, this could be even more useful.

Went looking for some info...for Carrara....and found this tut that may interest ies users on ies and results:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhj5xulB8r4&feature=related

Which then inspired me to find a free ies viewer via Google
this one seems to be like the one in the tut:
http://www.photometricviewer.com/
http://www.photometricviewer.com/1_4_Download.html   I could not get default installer.exe or .msi  (use drop-down selector)
to work in WinXP 32 bit but ies viewer only 299t.zip runs OK with no install; run from unzipped folder.

Handy to see visual results before TFP render.

and GE Lightbeams seems like a winner

from GE:
http://www.gelighting.com/na/business_lighting/education_resources/tools_software/
at bottom of page

a really nice set of views and controls

large file because it has lots of GE lights in ies format

installs in C:\program files; see GE "data" folder to get to ies files directly if you need to import to TFP

The GE Light Beams 3 app seems to be the better program; more controls and displays and excellent results.

This look like a great program, I will do some comparing test between to see how good TFP render light source with different IES-profile

Hi Doug,

There is a single spot in the program. If you resized it (deeper), turn off the 'lense' in 3D settings, and move the light back 'into' the light, it gives more of a narrow beam than one with the light fully outside the fixture.

Hi Doug and Jack!
I used the single spot in my black-room and  put a painting on the wall,

3 X Colorblast_12_Frosted_LTL16005_116-000025-00_070909.ies one for each color

I found out If you set Z=-1' X=-2', 0, 2' (R, B, G) and Y= distans from wall - 1' you get the effect I have in this image below.

I have zip IES-file for the colorblast 3 different version
