Australian Version 15 and 16
« on: April 18, 2011, 01:13:26 am »
Hi All,

There was previously a link posted here to a BIM file for standard Australian wall, window and door sizes that I downloaded and merged with my master catalog. (about 12 months ago) After reloading TFP v14 to fix file corruption I lost this and want to get it back.

I can no longer find the post that I read in this forum or the the Cadsoft Envisioneer user forum and they seem to have been removed. My assumption is that this file was being developed by a user and has subsequently been adopted in the Australian TFP version 15 and now longer available for general download.

I've checked out  http://www.green3dhome.com/GoGreen/BIMCatalogs.aspx. but could not find what I want and after following suggestions to chekout Cadsoft Customer Care I found out that they charge $660.00 for the AUstralian Catalog.

So, can anyone shed some light onto this either by confirming my assumption or posting a link to what I am looking for.

Cheers in advance,

Rob.

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the forum!

I don't recall the particular post you are talking about and as far as I know none have been deleted (except SPAM items of course!).  I know I have posted some BIM files of Austalian walls in the pat (eg http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1202.0.html) but I don't recall any windows or doors. Unlike walls, Windows and Doors are easily editable, so you can create new ones with the specifications you want and name you want and even save it to another Group so they are not mixed up with the others.

Too late for you now of course, but it is wise to keep a backup copy of your cataloge and then when you install a new version (or re-install for some reason) you can change back to your personalised catalogue. Have you checked that the old catalogue is not still there or did you choose to replace it when doing the re-install?)

If you have an old model where you used these BIM elements previously, you could open that and save the wall, window etc to your current catalogue. (File / Catalogues / Save Element To Catalogue - and click on it).

The Australian Catalogue for Envisioneer is very extensive and precise, as it is designed in Australia for use with the Envisioneer Construction Suite, which produces professional construction drawings.  There is also an Australian verison of TurboFloorPlan (available through Mindscape) that has an Australian catalogue (the Metric catalogue automatically has the Australian elements) but I have not compared it with the Envisioneer one - I don't think it is anywhere near as extensive but it comes automatically with the program, so is only the cost of the program, which is of course somewhat less than the Envisioneer catalogue when purchased separately. That may be an option for you - upgrade to V15 from Mindscape and it may have the Australian elements you want.

Hope some of that helps.

Whereabouts in Australia are you by the way?

Allan

Allan,

Thanks for your reply, It has still got me beat about where I found this generic AU/NZ catalog.

Anyway, I tried your suggestion of opening an old model and saving the elements to the current catalog. It worked a treat and funnily enough FTP automatically saved the elements under the following headings Generic Sliding Windows AU/NZ, Generic Doors AU/NZ and Generic Walls AU/NZ etc.

Now all I need to do is repeat the above option a fiew times for the items I want.  :D

Regards,

Rob

PS. By the way, I am in Canberra.

Hi Rob,

I am glad that worked for you. Yes it will automatically put the elements in the original group - If you imported an object from my personalised group it would list it in yours in the same way.

Where did you buy your original copy? If it was in Australia then it would likely have had the Australian elements in the mertric catalogue.

I noticed in the May 2011 issue of APC magazine there is a multipage advert for estore.com.au that includes TFP V15 for $88 ($12 saving). It says it has "100's of Australian industry standards hardware and materials". Whether these objects are worth the $88, is up to you to decide of course - plus you do get V15.  If you decided it was worth it, make sure you get V15, as their website only shows V14 - presumably not updated yet - it is V15 in the magazine.

All the best with it.

Hi Allan and Rob,

Natalie from Mindscape here.
Thank you for for pointing out that our reseller had the wrong product listed, I have emailed them to fix this ASAP.
The Australian/NZ edition is the metric catalog ( when you install and select metric that should appear).  The US found it easier to produce one master with the 2 catalogs with in the program.
If the Metric catalog drops out, you just have to reload it.
It is the same catalog for the V14 to the V15.  The only differnce in the programs new and henanced features.

With the CADSoft Australian catalog - $699, we tried back with V12 TFP to get them to create a smaller/cheaper  CD for us that customers could by as an extra but we could never get their files to import in to ours 100%.  I must say that we have not gone down this path since. may be something that I have to re-address.

Thanks Natalie for the explanation - a more extensive and precise Australian catalogue would be great if it can be achieved.

Can I just ask why we rarely see any copies of TFP in shops over here in the West? Retailers such as Harvey Norman, Officeworks etc seem to have all the other home design and CAD proucts, most from Mindscape, yet TFP is never among them.  I think I have seen it once only in the last few years and that was V12.

Depending on the answer of course you may want to reply direct to my email.

Hi Allan,

We do stock and Supply havey norman stores, with Officeworks we had to choose from the TurboCAD range or the TurboFloorplan - we choose TurboCAD, due to past sales.  We are hoping that with V16 TurboFloorplan and the great sales of V15 in other retailers that we can get them to stock our whole range.

thanks Allan.
