Help! Toolbar went inactive
« on: May 16, 2011, 01:42:00 pm »
I left for Italy and forgot to close my TFP15 program before I left. When I got back, the computer performed a Windows update and rebooted. Now when I re-open my program,  the toolbar icons grey-out and go inactive. I messed with the setting page, and nothing works. It is like this on a new project as well as an old one. Any ideas? ???

Hi and welcome to the forum,

You may need to re-install it but before you do that go to Settings / Program Settings and the General screen (should open on that) lists down the bottom where all the linked files are located. Is there an address for each?

Also on the General screen is the Startup Template. Does it have a file listed? If not, use the Browse to to select the template again.

While on the General screen take a note of where the Catalogue is located on your computer if the file location is showing.

Maybe it has lost the conntection to the Catalogue: Go to File / Catalogue and select Open Catalogue. It should take you to the file location that was on the General tab.  Select the catalogue you use (metric or Imperial).

Try these options and let us know what you find.

I tried to open it through the program, and the catolog box opens up empty!

Thanks for your help Allan! It appears that my catalog database became corrupt. Any idea how?

I just opened the metric catalog through the program and everything populated as it should! I am guessing a re-install will fix this?

It sounds as though the unexpected shutdown has corrupted the Imperial catalogye if the metric one works OK. Reinstalling should fix it.

It is advisable to keep a regular backup of your catalogue elsewhere on your computer, especially if you have added new elements or customised some. If a corruption does occur with an unexpected shutdown, then you can just copy your backup back to the TFP folder.

Make sure you take a copy of any projects you have done before you reinstall, just in case.

You could of course just stay with the metric catalogue - it is SO much easier than imperial - after you learn to think in metric of course!  ;D

By the way, from what I can see of your model it s looking good! Hopefully you will post some images in the Gallery when you are finished.

I had the same problem.  Happened last week -- stupid Windows!   So, I downloaded the software from the web site, installed it and then purchased it.  Will reinistalling it over-write any configurations, such as license key?

When you made the purchase you should have received a license key by email. Did you have that email?  If not, double-check that it has not been treated as spam and ended up in a junk mail folder.

If you have already created some models and if you have made any customisations to the Catalogue, then I would suggest taking copies of the folders before you re-install, just in case.  It is always wise to take a backup of the Catalogue regularly and then you can copy it back to the Catalogues folder if it becomes corrupted.

If you are in the US, there is free phone assistance available if you have installation issues. (http://www.imsidesign.com/Support/TurboFLOORPLANSupport/tabid/515/Default.aspx)
