    Allan :

Thanks.........And, I today, I had a real lesson in lighting.   That info you  had posted about the X,Y  and Z axes ?    I REALLY put it to use.   I re-did the kitchen in my City Home.  I  "installed"  recessed lighting.  But,  I kept getting a big square of light around them.   Until I adjusted the  X axis (up and down).  Now the light shines down into the kitchen without that light going all over the ceiling.   And I did the same thing with the lights in the living room.  Now the lights there look like there shining down on the table and up to the ceiling (through that hole in the top of the lamp shade).   And, I also added some counter space in the kitchen.
Your advice IS starting to payoff!!!!!!!!!!! (Yessssssssssssssssss!)

Hi Garystan,

They are looking GREAT!

Lowering the light source certainly improves the lighting, especially for any recessed lights.

Lampshades can be 'solid' in that the light does not shine through, but if you want to give the appearance that it is shining through and hence the shade itself is brighter and emmits light play with the Emmissive slider on the actual shade texture. It only needs a slight value usually. Note the shades in the image below where I have used some Transparency as well as Emmissive to give the appearance of a transluscent fabric on the corner one and semi opaque glass on the ceiling ones.

I had to lower the resolution a little bill.   I now have it set to 1152x864.    Before, with the resolution up to 1300  it was getting a little hard to read text.               garystan

and also as note to Allan....

Best to set your monitor (assuming its an LCD) to it's native resolution (usually the highest, but check data for your monitor)...to get best display image quality. Using any other setting will mean slightly blurry images as software tries to blend data across pixels.

If display text size needs changing....you can set that in windows setup:  control panel, display, and adjust as needed.

And you can adjust fonts and sizes even more under personal settings, advanced

    Allan :

I LIKE that pic.   Nice  "old-timey" look to it!!!!!!!  The circular shadow above the light does add a sense of realism to it.     One reason I was confused about the issue was that, when I did the settings on the table lamp,  it was quite easy. Now,  if that was quite easy why was it difficult to do the same thing for a wall sconce? Following your advice,  the problem is solved (moving the light source away from the light fixture).       I used this "model" as a  worksheet.  That way, I'd use it over and over.  With this light,  I had to move the light source quite a distance to get the effect.  I did still want that light spot on the ceiling (for effect), where the light would reflect off the ceiling.
                                                                                        Thanks,

      Doug :
I DID have my monitor setting up to 1300x????? (I forgot what the other number was),  and I think (maybe) I was  "pushing the video/monitor a bit, so I lowered it back down to 1024x768.  And, like you said, adjusted the text via Control Panel.   I just have to check further on the resolution.   To see what the limits are on the monitor.  I think most of the settngs I found are for the video card setting, not what the monitor's range is.
                                                                                         Thanks,
