Render to BMP
« on: September 24, 2007, 07:39:27 am »
When doing a rendering make sure that the file type saved to is a BMP. (Edited As I understand the Render options, there are 3. The "Live Interactive Option' that allows lights to be 'ON' while moving about in 3D space, the Basic option which is Raytrace and the Advanced Option which is Radiosity and Raytrace. I understand you CAN use a jpg with Basic but not with Radiosity. For this reason I just use a bmp all the time).

To check your settings start with the Options box at the bottom of the Real View page and follow the attached number sequence. Hit OK or Apply retain BMP setting from the drop down.

If you use the jpg option (edited With Radiosity)  it will be WHITE / and O KB (Also make sure you have 'Render to File' checked).

Hello Jack,

Are you saying that BMP is the only format that a rendering can be saved in?

I'm saying that if you render to jpg you will get no results so use BMP.

I assume it is just a simple bug that occurs in all programs and must be fixed, or already is fixed. Realize that we all are using a version that may or may not be the release version.

I have enough problems meeting deadlines etc to wonder about the reasons why a certain tool or operation works the way it does.

I find a solution that works for me and move on.

If the developers can improve things that's great, if they don't or can't I'm more than capable in following the detours to get me back on track.

I imagine that the old workhorse Irfanview will be able to translate the bmp into a jpeg.  As has been the case for quite a while now.

Still available free and a great pice of kit, given me good service and an app that costs you nothing must be a good return on anyone's investment.

IrfanView's best trick...

"This is a JPG with incorrect suffix: rename ??"

I down-load a lot of images while researching my tales, the proportion that have a 'munged' type suffix is quite alarming. IrfanView takes them in its stride *AND* fixes them.

Now I'm going to look for the forum option to turn off those infuriating fancy options that make for such s...l...o...w page loading.
