Some items can't be pulled into the plan
« on: November 15, 2011, 08:34:34 am »
Hi, great program - except a serious problem:

I can't pull certain items/ elements into a plan. For example a Double kitchen sink - and some times in first try an item can be pulled but not in the last.
I have Win 7, graphics card ATI Radeon HD 4800 with 512 MB Ram, lots of system Ram (8 GB) and extra HD-capacity, so I suppose it's not a hardware problem here.
Any idea what the problem is?
Greetings from Copenhagen.

Hi jz, welcome to the Forum!

Does this problem happens just with the sinks? If this is the case, there are two important notes
- Several sinks (as the double kitchen sink) can be inserted only into a cabinet
- Check if the cabinet dimensions are enough to place the sink

Hi Craftcad - and others out there

There is lot's of place, I have created a house plan to this test.
It happens to several items - e.g. in Plumbing fixtures -> Sinks toilet 1 and 2 works, but not bidet 1 and 2; single and double kitchen sink don't work, pedestal sink work as do wall mounted sink...

Just to be sure I do it in the right way:

When I pull an item into the plan it is grey with a cross over it.  Right click on Finish makes the item dissappear - for all items. I suppose this is normal and intended.
Left click changes the item from grey to colored (plumbing fixtures blue, a table is red, and so on).

Right click and then left click on Finish establishes the item in the plan - or it does not, but it should do in all cases.
What's the problem?

Hi again Draftcad

I haven't checked if double kitchen sink work if cabinet is in first, sorry. Will do that.
It raises new Q: Where to see which items requires certain other items? Only common sense?  :)

Hi Hi again

It works! It least with a base cabinet and double kitchen sink. So, maybe only question left is the one above: Any other guide than common sense to which items require certain other items?

Hi jz,

Glad to know that the sink worked!  ;)

Now, regarding your questions

only question left is the one above: Any other guide than common sense to which items require certain other items?
Actually it is in the Help files --> check Inserting Plumbing Fixtures --> the last line reads --> "Note: Certain sinks can only be inserted into a cabinet. If you are inserting such a sink, the cabinet must be large enough to house the sink."

Both bidets work OK in my program --> you don't need to right click to place the object --> just drag and left click on the insertion point --> after the fixture is placed, right click to finish

Hi jz,

Commonsense, as you  said, is probably the best guide. With most things they will work as they would buiilding a real house. Obviously a wall mounted sink would not require a cabinet, while a cabinet mounted sink or basin would.

Some items are also set to align to a wall. You can aactually 'bounce' them off the wall in effect to turn then around. A wall mounted sink, or even a cabinet, will turn itself around so that the back is to the wall but it will not do that if the  wall is not there obviously. This is all controlled by COLLISION on the Status bar (lower right of the screen).

COLLISION will prevent you from putting things inside walls for example, overlapping each other, or too close together. If you purposely want to do those things, then you can turn it off.

Some items cannot be inserted in some places if there is not room for it. Putting a door or window in a wall that is not  long enough will cause it to disappear. Basically the program attempts to stop us doing things that should not be done and USUALLY gets it right although it does not always tell you why it won't do what you are trying to do. That is when I stop and think 'what am I doing wrong here?'.

I have just one concern about a comment you made earlier to the effect that inserted items disappear when you insert them until you right click Finish. This does not sound normal - does it always happen? Can you explain the effect a bit more? Is it just the most recently inserted item, all of the same type of item, or everything on the screen?

and also check "settings" in the program....insert can be set to insert "one" time for an item...or multiple times (one for each left click) and it requires user to right-click and "finish"; whereas single insert does not require "finish".

I think the default is multiple inserts...set ti to which way you prefer to work or which ever works best.

Hi, thank you very much for answers - about Collision and Program Settings/ Insertions.

Sometimes I still think things behave a little strange, but it's getting better.
So, maybe I am just beginning to get used to the program...

Fine help from you all! I'll get back in case of persistent problems  ;)
