Hi jz,
Commonsense, as you said, is probably the best guide. With most things they will work as they would buiilding a real house. Obviously a wall mounted sink would not require a cabinet, while a cabinet mounted sink or basin would.
Some items are also set to align to a wall. You can aactually 'bounce' them off the wall in effect to turn then around. A wall mounted sink, or even a cabinet, will turn itself around so that the back is to the wall but it will not do that if the wall is not there obviously. This is all controlled by COLLISION on the Status bar (lower right of the screen).
COLLISION will prevent you from putting things inside walls for example, overlapping each other, or too close together. If you purposely want to do those things, then you can turn it off.
Some items cannot be inserted in some places if there is not room for it. Putting a door or window in a wall that is not long enough will cause it to disappear. Basically the program attempts to stop us doing things that should not be done and USUALLY gets it right although it does not always tell you why it won't do what you are trying to do. That is when I stop and think 'what am I doing wrong here?'.
I have just one concern about a comment you made earlier to the effect that inserted items disappear when you insert them until you right click Finish. This does not sound normal - does it always happen? Can you explain the effect a bit more? Is it just the most recently inserted item, all of the same type of item, or everything on the screen?
