2 "sensitive" settings? emissive & lights
« on: November 17, 2007, 11:09:24 am »
Do you all have these same problems.....and do you have a solution?

1. If I make anything "emissive" by as much as 1%, it turns completely white in a radiosity render....such as a ceiling or light/lamp shade....when I really want it "brighter", not completely bright white.  I dabbled with transparency and colors to no avail.   Would seem if emissive runs from 0 to 100 that 1 would be a "small" change....but 1 or 10 or 100 is the same.....so its either on (1-100) or off (0)?????

2. ALL lights seems to be way too bright and overwhelm the scene....so I end up with 8 watt set to 5% (minimums I can find) to get decent lighting indoors (no sun)...but even with sun on lights seems to be too bright.   I also have adjusted "brightness" but what a lot of juggling everything.  I have done thousands of renders including radiosity in other programs and none have ever been this finicky.

How have you overcome these problems?  or do you not have these issues?  What is the dimmest light you have found so far?

Hi Doug,

Allen posted this in another section - it might help you out.
http://forum.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,105.0.html

My software started freezing out of control, (I sent the data to the IT guys at IMSI hopefully they can figure out the problem) so I've not been able to do any of cool radiosity things.
A months worth of building and now I've been reduced to starting over...  room [file] by room [file]; no walking through.

Re your 'Freezing" - I assume you have tried with Hardware Acelleration off?  If that did not solve the problem have you tried turning it down on the computer itself also? (Desktop right click -  Properties/Advanced etc)

Doug,

Re light emmisive setting - I have not had a problem with it.  In the image linked in the previous post the lamps and lampshade are set to 4% emmissive - it does need low settings but does work at low settings.

The wattage setting must be one of the best kept secrets in TFP don't you agree? - hidden so deep! (or maybe there are others we still have not found !).  I am sure they will do something with that.

The smallest wattage I have managed is the same as you I think, 5% of 8W - that is 0.4 Watts.  It is obviously ridiculous to have to go to such minute settings to get the lights dull enough!!  I am sure they are working on that one too, as well as the inside/outside brightness.  A previous post from Dave Taylor indicated that a patch is on the way for some of the other things we have reported, so hopefully it will cover these things too and not be too long in coming.

I have posted the directions to the wattage settings, in case someone else reading this wonders where they are.

I posted a tip in the tips area....you can set wattage brightness "scale" to as low as "1" if you type-in the number instead of using the scroll arrows which only get us down to 5.
