Power Outage - Lost File
« on: January 06, 2012, 09:26:16 am »
Hi Everyone
TFP v15 (AND TCad v 14.2) with Win7
A regrettable and strange occurrence following a 2 hour power outage in both programs

TFP v15 AND TCad v 14.2 were open earlier when we suffered an unexpected electrical 2 hour outage, electrics have just been restored and on opening my TFP project folder found it empty.
I have also discovered that 2 hrs work on TCad has also been lost on an open file.

I carried out a google desk top search and it shows the TFP file to be in its correct projects folder but when I try to open the file I am taken to the folder but it is empty. (my folder is set up to show all files included 'hidden')
(thanks Alan) I have also searched for .bkp and see the correctly named .bkp file but get the message
"The following file cannot be found:
    C:\xxx\xxxx\Documents\TURBOFloorPlan_v15\Projects_v15\Flosh Meadows Layout-11_1.bkp
This may happen if you deleted or moved the file"

I have download my file from this forum and saved it with a different name (in case the system throws the lost one back to me) the forum file is not fully up to date but only about 1 hour lost work.

Lesson:- multi copies in many locations.

Best Regards
Richard

Hi Richard,

I carried out a google desk top search and it shows the TFP file to be in its correct projects folder but when I try to open the file I am taken to the folder but it is empty. (my folder is set up to show all files included 'hidden')
(thanks Alan) I have also searched for .bkp and see the correctly named .bkp file but get the message

This comment sound like you opened TFP, then tried to open the file (and an empty folder resulted). Have you treid it the other way? Go to your folder where you see the files, right click and select Open With and choose TFP.  The power failure and abnormal close of TFP, may have broken its link to the folder and it may also have corrupted the BLD file that was open but the BKP file would probably be OK, as it is created when you save. Try using the right click to open the BKP file - just double clicking it would probably not work as it may not recognise it as a TFP file but Open With should.

There should also be auto-save files - if you have auto-save turned on!

Thanks Alan

I dived straight in before reading your comment and downloaded the file I had used in the forum.
I saved it to 'Projects' with the same/original file name and brought it up to date.

It sounds as though your method would have worked.

Again thank you for your help.

Richard
