Building Plans - Cross Sections?
« on: October 04, 2007, 08:10:52 pm »
Hello,

Its been almost two years since I used FloorPlan.  I've been off trying to start a Music Store and now I'm getting back into drawing plans to make some money.  So I have a couple of basic questions:
1.  Is this an All-in-One program that will let me create 24"x36" scaled drawings for the Building Dept or do I still need TurboCad or something else?  Even though I got fairly proficient with rendering in FP, I never got the hang of TurboCad and the bridging so I just kept on using BricsCad which is an AutoCad clone.
2. Can I create detailed Cross-Sections with this program?
3. Is the landscape module as good as Punch Landscape Pro which my wife is learning to use since she is already a Master Gardener would like to make some money doing design.

Thanks in advance for answering my questions...

In answer to question 2, I believe that creating cross-sections is a function of the TFP-Pro edition.  That is what is indicated in the manual and I haven't seen any menu options in the TF-V12.00 that I have create cross sections.

AHR8,

Which version of TurboFLOORPLAN do you have? I'd be interested to know if the Designer version has Sectioning.

If it does it would be located in the lower View Toolbars, a Black and Red Icon with a drop down 'triangle' , which should say 'Create New Section'.

In the Pro Version you have all the tools needed to create 'working drawings' , what is lacking is something similar to 'paper space' to lay them out, but you can create New Views and in these Views use the View Filter to display the needed items. For example, you can display Elevations (front / back / side etc) but with Elevations and Sections you cannot add dims or text. So, it is wise to export them to TurboCAD as dxf files and all you have to do there is add dims / text and set to paper space for printing.

As far as plans go, you can do everything and then use a print to pdf program to generate 24 x36 or as needed.

To get full Working Drawing capabilies you'd have to upgrade to another program or use TurboCAD.

Thanks, Guys.

How about the Landscaping Module?  Has any body had an opportunity to compare its features to Punch Landscape Pro?

Contours

The use of Plateaus works well for tracing over contours.

In the example attached the 'walls' labeled in 2' increments are following the contour lines (they are 1" higher so they arent' buried by the terrain).

You can see that the slope is quite accurate. The terrian tools 'interact' with one another so if I add a 'hill' at 4' it will be added taking into account the previous settings , or a trench at -5'.

It is much more accurate to import a DEM 3D Model , but in general I can find nothing wrong with what is supplied.
