This is far too confusing for me as a newbie....
Why in world is it so hard to simply drop a window into the front of a dormer?
How many dormers have you seen with a blank wall as the front facing? Virtually none, they all have windows...
So I don't understand why a insert window option isn't built into the dormer creation?
I have tried to follow the instructions here and simply can't figure it out.
My disk is in the mail, as I just purchased it after playing with the program for a few days, I like it, but this dormer issue is frustrating!
Any other suggestions?

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I can sympathise with you, I got lost with this too but it is quite simple really. I will try to list the steps.

1. In 2D plan view - Insert the dormer.

2. Go to View / View Filter and turn off the roof (Click the eye.  This is not essential but makes it easier if the roof is out of the way)

3. Insert the window in the dormer wall.

4. Click on the window so it turns green.

5. Switch to 3D view and go to Edit / Select Previous (This will highlight the window again and you will see it as a green box in the BOTTOM part of the invisible lower section of the dormer wall - the dormer wall actually goes to the floor but is made invisible below the roof!)

6. Right click with the window still highlighted and select Elevate. (The figure in the Elevate box is the present height of the top of the window and will be the same as all the windows on that floor.  Increase the figure in small steps and you will see it move up, in the 3D view, into the dormer.  Don't take it too far in one go or it will disappear out of the top of the dormer and you will have to start again)

7. Turn the roof back on again.

I hope that makes it clearer.
