Some Pics
« on: August 10, 2008, 02:42:04 pm »
Here are a few pics of my project. I do this for fun, it's a great stress reliever. I still need to work with the lighting to eliminate shadows on the ceiling. I've tried various ways but doesn't seem to work.

They look GREAT Linda!  I love the blend of colours and the style.  As you say it is very relaxing.

To get the shadows to look right you will need to use Advanced rendering.  Before you try it, do a Search on the forum for some tips, as there are a few traps and bugs at present.  To avoid most of these set the Sun to Overcast, use Quality 3 at least and set the output size to small (eg 320x240) until you get the lighting about reight then try a larger size as it takes much longer to render.

It is well worth doing and very rewarding when you get it right.

Thanks Allan for the tips on the lighting and happy that you like the pics :) You mentined about the overcast setting. I've been using the trial version & I didn't see a setting for overcast. I received the boxed version but haven't installed it yet so I will check. I've rarely been using the advanced rendering but I will try the smaller size like you mentioned. My favorite  part of the program is the rendering. :)

Also, I love the pics you posted here in the gallery, they're awesome! Is the second pic the actual real life project?

Hi Linda,

If you like the rendering best then wait until you get into the Advanced rendering - for inside views it makes a huge difference.  See this example http://forum.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,458.msg2153.html#msg2153 as an example of the quality that is possible.

Yes the second image of the Stage view is the real photo.  I created the TFP image to show the organisers how it should look and then the second is the photos of how it did look.

If the new boxed version is the same as the trial (no Overcast setting) then you need to apply the Update listed in the last section of this forum.  This will be essential before you start doing some Advanced rendering ,other wise you have to open an close the program between each render or it just gets brighter and brighter.  That was fixed in the update.  There are still some bugs but it was the worst!

If you wish to use basic rendering for a while (it is faster) but want to reduce shadows....turn off all the lights that make bad shadows and insert some bare lights (insert a light and fixture, then make all the fixture materials transparent)....and place many around with lower wattage until you light the scene as desired.

It is a lot of trial and error .....like setting up a photo studio.

Hi Doug,

You mentioned placing bare lights, what does that mean. What I've been doing is turning down the wattage on all the fixtures but I haven't played around with making the fixtures materials transparent.

my definition of  bare light is simply a lite with no fixture...its just a bare bulb.....but you really can't do that in TFP directly...hence insert a light and then make each part of the fixture (everything but the "red cube" bulb) as 100% transparent.

you may have to dig into several dialog boxes to get to the transparency setting...look here:
