Unwanted window trim color
« on: January 25, 2009, 04:36:33 pm »
The attached picture shows six inch walls with lots of windows.

The large windows on the West wall display the way I want them, as do the sliding glass doors in the North wall, for the most part.  All of the remaining windows (and the top of the doors) have white "trim" around them.  In every case, the "Appearance" settings on the windows are for black everything except for the glass.

I don't want the white trim around the windows, how can I make it go away?

Hi,

I suspect that you may have set the wrong side of the wall.  You will notice on the Wall/Trim tab there are is a dropdown list for Exterior, Right Interior side and Left Interior Side - you probably have one side set to black a 'Opening Casing' and the other to white.  Seems a funny way to me to do it (side of the wall I mean) but the left and right are in relation to the direction in which you originally drew the wall. Later you would have no idea which way you drew the wall (!) but  there is a clue - the green dot being the start and red dot the end (blue of course in the middle).  I usually have all walls the same, so preset all sides before I use the wall. I you change your mind later then it is great fun changing them all.  Hopefully there will be some sort of global change eventually, although you can Shift/Click each wall and then change all you have selected but that is tedious for a full house as it is so easy to miss one piece.

Exterior of course only applies after four walls join to make a room and TFP then classifies the exterior as a result.

Nope -- much simpler than that, and something I should have picked up on myself.

In "Properties" (for the Window or sliding door) there is a check box for "Include Opening Trim."  Unchecking that box (it is checked by default) solves the problem nicely.

but  there is a clue - the green dot being the start and red dot the end (blue of course in the middle).

Now that is a handy thing to know.  I have guessed wrong about half the time which side of the interior wall was the one I wanted to put the tiles on.   :-\  You've solved that one for me.

As always, thanks, Allan.
