Persistant Shut-Down
« on: October 11, 2007, 06:28:34 pm »
I've run into a bit of a wall.  As soon as I go into 3D on my model, I get the "FloorPlan has encountered a problem and must shut down."  message.  Gone through it about 6 times tonight.  Had no trouble last night.  I encounter the same problem just now when I tried to go into "Elevations".  Shut down 3X.  Followed Allan Chesney's advice on another "crashing" post and disabled "hardware acceleration", to no avail.

Also, I seem to have monkeyed with the Auto-Save settings or some such, as all the files that I saved (except the current one) are now blank.

Wha....???

I'm sure it's ME, but could use some help finding what I've done wrong.  Thanks

PS.  While I was typing this update, Doug's and Allan's replies were posted.  In that The HA has no noticeable effect, why would the drivers/video card be an issue tonight but never posed a problem before?? In any case, thanks for jumping in there, guys.

Dave

Do you have hardware acceleration "on" or "off"?

Many people having troubles with HA "on" but less/no trouble (but runs a bit slower) when "off"...especially for renders.

Dave,

If you are running into the problem only in 3D, then, as Doung said, the first thing to try is to turn off Hardware Acelleration. (Settings/Program Settings/Graphics).  3D puts a greater load on your PC's graphic setup and if there are limitations there (eg not the latest drivers) then you could have problems. With HA on, mine shuts down instantly if I click the Radiosity button in Advanced 3D rendering.  If that does not fix it you may have to update your video card drivers.

UPDATE:  I now know that the HA enable keeps turning itself on again after the crash.  I made sure it was off and went into 3D just fine....like you guys said....."Doh!

Thanks

Dave,

It will keep the setting if you change it and then close the program yourself.  When it crashes first it will not remember the change.
