How do I apply path to old version 6
« on: May 16, 2009, 05:33:51 am »
I have TurboCAD V8 which included FloorPlan 3D V6. I have a patch for it "Patch 6_0_209_0.exe" which I saved several years ago, and have re-installed this FP but I'm having trouble applyng the patch.

Running the patch I get a dialog telling me to enter
1) "Specify location of FloorPlan 3D V6 installer files", and
2) "Specify location of FloorPlan 3D V6.1 installer files will be saved"

The second item is pre-filled with "C:\Program Files\FloorPlan 3D v6 Setup" which does not exist on my machine (I have FP V6 installed in G:\Program Files\IMSI\FloorPlan 3D v6\).

I have tried various guesses for 1) including the installation CD, but all report "Could not find correct FloorPlan 3D v6 Setup files".

Any suggestions how to proceed please?

Hi Phil,

Welcome to the forum.

You may have to go the FloorPlan 3D forum for help on this one, although some of the users here may have come from the FloorPlan3D product and may be able to help.  TurboFLOORPLAN replaced FloorPlan 3D a couple of years ago but the old forum is still running. This link should get you there.  http://forums.imsisoft.com/forums/Main.cfm?CFApp=232.

I did see an offer of V7 free, on an IMSI site I think, earlier today but cant find it again right now. In fact I have seen even later versions available on PC magazine cover disks so if you want to do any serious work you may want to try one of these.  There were quite a few problems if I recall with V6 which is why I avoided it but V7 fixed most. V8, 10 and 11 were even better (not 9).  V12 and now V14 are now called TurboFLOORPLAN and are much more advanced programs  but not compatable with previous versions.

Of course, if you wanted to link any of these later version into TurboCAD V8 they may not match so if you wanted to do that you may have ot stay with V6 (or maybe 7).

Sorry I can't help with the specific question your asked.

Thanks very much Allan. I have found V8.0.3.3 and V9.0.128 on Computer Shopper* cover DVDs (V8 on #224 Oct 2006 and V9 on #237 Nov 2007). I am trying the v8, and avoiding v9 in view of what you say. Any idea what the V9 problems are?

Hi Phil,

V8 was a good version, best since V4. V10 added a lot of flexibility in editing so it was great and V11 just refined a few things. I avoided V9 completely because of all the bugs reported by users and while I cant remember any specifics now, I know everyone found it very frustrating. I dont think a patch was ever released, they went quickly to V10.

V12 and now 14 are just as easy to use but capable of even greater things. Essentially they are Envisioneer 5 without the  CAD and technical plan printing functions that multiply the price by 15 times! From either Floorplan 3D or TurboCAD you may be able to get an Upgrade price if you plan to do some serious design work. Worth a phone call to check as the upgrade discounts are usually very generous, certainly from the more recent versions.

What sort of things were you wanting to do?
