Bug Report: TFP Crashes Drawing Roof Section
« on: October 14, 2007, 03:23:09 pm »
First, let me ask if we are going to get a forum category for Bug Reports?  I think it would be helpful for users and IMSI alike.  But, before just creating the category, I'd suggest that you devise and post the definitions and constraints on what constitutes a bug report or you will get many feature requests.

Now on to the problem:  My TFP crashes when constructing an 8/12 clay tile roof using the "roof by picking points" menu on an atrium structure I designed.  I know that FP3D required the use of multiple locations and manipulating elevations and placements to place an atrium roof because it had no capability to draw a roof by picking points.  My structure has eight different roof sections.  The program consistently crashes when I draw the last section.  It crashes regardless of which section I choose to draw last.  I can find no rules or references that indicate that I'm making an illegal operation or improper use of the software.  I've experimented trying to find a causative factor but so far can only conclude that the software can't handle the final conjoining of roof structure and crashes.

My usual first check when a crash occurs is to turn off Hardware Acelleration and try again.  Any crash I have had has been fixed by turning HA off. (Settings/Program Settings/Graphics)  Having said that I have not done much with the roof tools yet, (been concentrating on interior radiosity renders), but it would be interesting to see, if you have it on, if it fixes your problem.

Turned HA off as suggested and now I can't construct a roof on any picked points section.

I'll keep fiddlin' with it and see if I can come up with more/better symptoms to describe.

Thanks for the help, Allan!

I created a bug report/usability link.
http://forum.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,42.0.html

In my experience many of the items people want to classify as bugs have much to do with user techniques.
Specificallly in the case of this your roof section it may be due to any for lack of a better term unclean intersections between floors, walls, roofs or other objects that have overlapping segments.  The cleaner you draw the better your performance.  Worst case back up your work then use File|Repair project.  This will identify and attempt to fix the trouble spots  however it may delete those areas requiring a redraw of that object. so be careful.  if that doesn't send me a private message I will arrange a way so that can take a look at it.

Thanks,
Dave
