Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

It does not look as though anyone has had this issue since there have not been any replies so far.

Looks like you may have to contact Customer Support by phone or email for their advice. http://www.imsidesign.com/Support/Overview/tabid/349/Default.aspx.

I presume you tried the 'clean install' instructions. http://www.imsidesign.com/Support/InstallationDirections/tabid/441/Default.aspx.

Hi
If you get error 1628: Failed to complete instalation on a 64-bit, is the program is most likely not 64-bit compatible. I looking truw the support side om IMSI  and I have not find that the program is 64-bit compatible. So the best is to make a call to IMSI isntalltion support I think.

I had this same problem last April.
It was with TurboFloorplans parent product Envisioneer.
It happened with the downloaded version of the software.
When Cadsoft sent me the DVD version, Envisioneer loaded just fine.

If you can have IMSI send you a DVD version of Turbofloorplan that should fix it.
Below is the problem I had. I copied this text from the Envisioneer forum.

I'm attempting to install Envisioneer 5.
It will not install and I get this message

Installshield
1628: Failed to complete installation.

Hi there,

Few questions
1 - what AV are you using? are you a McAfee / Norton user?
2 - Did you try (as exercise) to burn a DVD with the downloaded program (or copy it to an USB memory) and install the program from these locations?
3 - Any particular reason why you didn't install Win SP3?

Hi,  I get the same error message when trying to install FloorPlan, has this problem been resolved and how?

I've tried both the trial versions for v14 from CNet downloads and directly from IMSI but still get the same error, an older v11 was able to install.

I'm running WindowsXP Pro 64.

Hoping someone can point me in direction of a fix as v11 looks good but need to check out v14 before consider buying, and if it's not even installing then..

Thanks.

Allan Chesney

I am not a technical person as far as computers are concerned but I just wondered if you have tried Keith's and Pat's suggestions above.

Things that have come up either above or in the past include:

Saving the download to a CD and install from there.
Turning off antivirus programs during download and installation.
Saying NO to Hardware Acelleration (if requested during installation).
Making sure nothing else is running during installation.
Select to Install as Administrator (essential for Vista not sure if possible on XP)

V14 is much more advanced than V11.  Actually it is a totally different program and they are not compatible with each other - V14 will not open a V11 file. Although different they look similar in some of the dialog boxes and it works in a similar manner. It is much more technically capable, with many more functions and much greater flexibility. It is a cut down version of Envisioneer, which has just had a new release (V6). This indicates that V15 of TFP is also just around the corner as it usually follows a few months later. If you do purchase now you will find that IMSI generally offer a large discount if you want to upgrade to the later version.

I hope you can resolve the issue as it is a fascinating program to use.

thanks, other than requesting a CD/DVD of the program, yes tried above suggestions.

It should install from the download, its not corrupt, I have no problem installing other software, so wondering if v14 is 64 bit compatible or not, but it sort of looks like an InstallShield installing issue rather than TFP, so if anyone else or originator of topic has any pointers :)

I think you may be right with that comment, as I am sure some of the Envisioneer users have 64 bit systems.
Also I did a Google search on the error message and the indications in the Mircrosoft KB entry implies the issue is with InstallShield http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175/en-us (if I am reading it right). Method 10 on this page refers specifically to the 1628 error.

Hi freezz

Check the FAQ in the TurboFLOORPLAN webpage http://www.imsidesign.com/Products/TurboFLOORPLAN/FAQs/tabid/659/Default.aspx
Q.  Is TurboFLOORPLAN a 64-bit or 32-bit application?
A.  TurboFlOORPLAN is a 32-bit application. If you are running TurboFLOORPLAN on a 64-bit system, it will run in 32-bit mode.

Hope this helps  :)

Thanks Pat for posting that. I tried but could not find it.  Search did not come up with it either, until I saw your post - it has a dash between the 64 and Bit (64-bit). Put the dash in and Search works !!!

Hi Allan,

Glad to help!  :)

An interesting note about XP 64-bit (you're right! lets include the dash :D) --> according with several comments I saw (XP users' groups) , it seems that the home design programs (in general) have problems with XP 64-bit

(BTW, your tutorial about the Custom objects is great!)

Hi Pat!
I wonder if it is XP 64-bit it trouble with, I think it is the 64 bit drivers for the graphic-card that is the problem.
I found a faq on Swedish abut that on Microsoft homepage, they say if a 32-bit program have a 32-bit hardware driver the program will not run on a 64-bit system, and I think this is the problem her.

Hi Robert!  :)

I don't think that this issue is related with the videocard. ATI and Nvidia have drivers for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems
The information I have is that some programs are 32-bit applications (meaning they were developed as 32-bit applications), and in this context, the memory allocation for a 64-bit system would be different . As all the graphic programs use big amounts of memory, they are specially affected by this issue
For example, I was told that Adobe developed special 64-bits filters for their apps
However, as I never used XP 64-bit, I am not sure if there is a workround to install / use TFP  ???

OK, sorted the problem.  My guess is that the installer due to the create date of the package is an older InstallShield that has an issue with 64bit access and admin rights, newer installer doesn't exhibit this problem as far as I've seen.

Steps to install worked involve making a change to Software Restrictions Rights and in general can be done following the steps outlined here in this topic on the TechArena forum.

copied here:
QuoteFirst: Control Panel - not using classic display

2. Click Performance and Maintenance

3. Administrative tools

4. click local security policy

5. Then click Software restriction policies.

6. When I did this there weren't any set. So you have to click action tab to create them. When you do so click onto enforcement.

7. Then select all users except administrator.

The policy only has to be applied (ie not need to reboot windows or anything). Remove policy once you have installed.

V14 look a bit diff from v11, will folow closely for a v15.
