Fed up with V14 crashing on XP

Don't get me wrong, I love so many aspects to this program, but the software is just so buggy in sections that it is almost impossible to complete a project in it. Moving openings in floors etc almost guarantees a crash in V14 (latest patches applied) and doing the most innocuous tweaks to a design can cause it to enter an infinite loop where the processor just flatlines at 100% with nothing ever happening. The time I've lost can now probably be measured in days and I'm going to look for alternative software ...

Hello Roger! Welcome to forum. I think that you shall not give up, if you can give little moor information abut your computer, OS, graphic card etc., so shall some in the forum try to help you.

Hi Roger,

As Robert said - do not give up.  It is not bugs in the program that are causing the problem, as I use it every day and have done since version 3 and do not have these problems.

The type of issue you describe is invariably something to do with the computer setup and as Robert said, more details are required to be able to diagnose the problem.  Not that I am much good at that, as I am far from being a computer expert, but Pat will almost certainly be able to help but will need to know the Operating System, Processor, graphics card details etc (he may ask for more).  It could also be a conflict introduced during the installation, especially it it was done while other programs, virus scanners etc, were running. In this case re-installtion may be required, with all other programs shut down.

The first thing I usually suggest if anything odd happens, is to turn off Hardware Acceleration (Settings/ Program Settings / Graphics). This only takes a second to do and, if that seems to solve the problem, then it may indicate a graphics card issue. The program may still work with HA off but will be slow to move around. It does not fix the problem as such, just allows it to work but it is a quick check and may simply indicate you need to upgrade the video card driver to the latest version (free from card makers website) which will often solve the problem.  You may want to read this post http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1225.0.html, which may appear at first to be unrelated but the cause may be the same.

If none of this helps I am sure Pat will pop by soon and help you out.

Hi Roger,

TFP is an excellent program, so, lets try to fix the problem so you can enjoy it!!  :)

Reading your description, I think that your problem is easy to solve, but in order to be sure, lets identify the issue

First, as Allan and Robert suggested, can you provide the info regarding your computer?

I need to know--> OS, videocard, processor, RAM (this is very important)

Also, please, list all the Antivirus, Anti Malware, etc installed in your computer--> when did you run them the last time?
