TurboFloorPlan Install problems

I cannot get the product to install.  I have downloaded and verified that the install files are good several times.

I downloaded from this link: http://downloads.imsidesign.com/ESD/Turbofloorplan3D_Home_Landscape_PRO_Setup-16.exe

Each time, with different downloads, I get to D:\...\Resource\garden.000, and get the following error:

QuoteError 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.  This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

The Abort option is the only choice, since Retry fails to do anything, and Ignore just  fails after generating a lot more errors.

I have tried all of the safe install tips - run as administrator, compatability check,  no AV running while installing, etc.  Doesn't matter which drive I install to, and I have repeated this same issue on 2 separate Win7 x64 systems.

I contacted support and opened a support ticket, worked through the same steps, from download to install to error, with the support tech, he was very helpful and persistent, staying on the issue with me for quite some time, but was ultimately stumped as well.  The ticket was supposed to be escalated to a higher level support person, but never heard anything back.

Have to say, is making it difficult to decide to buy the product when I can't even install it.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get this installed?

Allan Chesney

Hi and welcome to the forum,

First I am not a technical person and may not be able help, so I will just make a couple of points I have picked up over the years.

It sounds as though you have tried everything but just two things  are not quite clear from your comments but seem to be essential for the installation to work:
1. Accept all then default file locations - don't change any.
2. Locate the exe file where you downloaded it to on your computer,  right click it  and choose 'Run as Administrator'. You may have done that but some have thought to just signing on as Administrator was enough.

If this does not help, Pat or some other more technical

Hi there,

Try these steps (all of them), exactly in this order

1 - Go to Programs and Features and uninstall TFP
2 - Go to C --> Program files (x86) --> IMSIDesign --> verify if there is any file present --> if so --> delete the files and the IMSIDesign folder
3 - C --> ProgramData --> IMSIDesign --> verify if there is any file present --> if so --> delete the files and the IMSIDesign folder
4 - Repeat all for all the drives where you installed the program
5 - Run a Registry cleanup
6 - Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Disk cleanup --> clean all unnecessary files from all the drives where you installed the program
7 - Run Spybot and / or Adware (we are not looking for virus but for malware)

Now you are ready for the installation but follow these steps
1 - If your computer is part of a network, disconnect it from the network and perform the installation just in one computer
2 - Install as Administrator --> notice that it is not the same that Run as Administrator --> you need to Log in as Administrator and after this --> install the program
3 - As Allan stated, accept the file locations, you can change the locations after
Let us know about the results

Followed the directions explicitly.

Fails on mfc71.dll.  Error 1335.  The cabinet file 'Data1.cab'...

Looks to me like Data1.cab is not being placed into the installshield directory, or anywhere else I've looked.

At the point of failure, these are the folder contents on the drive:

Try this --> Do the unistall / clean routine again --> clean all the temp files --> download and install this file, following the instructions

Try the installation again

Ok so in addition to the above, here is what I did, and it finally installed.

Stop any AntiVirus and Spyware scanning software.  Make sure they won't restart.  Reboot.

Login as Administrator.  If you can't see the Administrator user, login as another account with admin rights, open a command prompt, and type

net user administrator /active:yes

You should see a message that the command completed successfully.

logout, and you should see the Administrator account option on the login screen. Login as Administrator.

In Windows Explorer, change to C:\Windows\System32, check for MFC71.dll.  If it's not there, download it as a zip file from http://www.dll-files.com/mfc71.zip.  Do not use their funky installer, it wasted a lot of time.  Extract the MFC71.dll from the zip file into C:\Windows\System32.  I didn't even have to register the dll, but you can if you want.

Download the install file, fresh, from http://downloads.imsidesign.com/ESD/Turbofloorplan3D_Home_Landscape_PRO_Setup-16.exe.  Once it completes, open the downloads folder, and copy it to your desktop.  (Every time I tried to install from Downloads, it failed.)

Make sure you have a copy of your license key, and then disconnect your network connection.

Close all programs except Windows Explorer.

Open a cmd prompt, type set, look for the TEMP and TMP settings, those are your temp directories, usually set to the same folder, generally C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows 7.

Change to C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp (or whatever temp folder is configured) and  create a folder named Archive under the Temp directory from above.

Move all folders and files that you can from C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp to the C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\Archive folder.  You MUST move all folders, a few files might not want to move, that's ok.

Again in Windows Explorer, change to C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information.
Create an Archive folder under this directory, and again, move EVERYTHING under C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information into the C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\archive.

Still in Windows Explorer, Check that there are no C:\ProgramData\IMSIDesign or C:\Program Files (x86)\IMSIDesign folders (you might have both).  If there is, delete that folder and everything under them.

Now run a registry cleaner on your system.  A good free one is ccleaner, can download from download.com.  Select registry on the left side, scan, then make sure you save the undo information.  Select Fix all Issues. Repeat until there are no issues found.

And now..you're ready to actually install the program.

Right click on the Turbofloorplan3D_Home_Landscape_PRO_Setup-16.exe file, and make sure there's no "Unblock" button.  If there is, click it, then apply and exit.

Again, right click on Turbofloorplan3D_Home_Landscape_PRO_Setup-16.exe and select "Open" (since you're logged in as Administrator already, no reason to select Run as Administrator.)

Take all default options, do NOT try to install to a different folder or drive, just take the defaults, put your license key in, and if you get past ..\garden.000, you're likely to have succeeded.

If it succeeds, don't forget to re-enable antivirus and spyware blockers, and you might have to move the folders from C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\archive up one level, in order for uninstall to work for some programs in the future.

Logout of administrator, and login as your regular user.  Try the software.

I have a second Windows 7 computer which I will try this on, and will update these notes with what I discover.

Hi Pat,

Just curious - why was all of this necessary in this case?  All I have ever done is turn off all other programs including virus scanner, right clicked the exe file and selected Run As Administrator and everyhing has worked perfectly.

I don't want a long explanation but in all of this, was there a basic cause of the initial problem.

Hi Allan,

Because, reading the OP issues, two elements were clear for me (and different from a normal installation)
1 - The computers work as a network, and in this case it is not enough to run the program as administrator, you need to disconnect the network and Login as Administrator (they are different processes)
2 - The *.dll libraries were not complete or they were corrupted or at least the mfc71.dll was missing so he was not able to install the Data1.cab file

Thanks Pat,

I understand Point 2 and thought the dll was probably the culprit.

I sort of understand point 1 but find such thing very confusing. I never have been able to find how to log on as an Administrator!  Have I told you before how I HATE computers!  ;) . They were allright in the olden days when there was virtually no such thing as logging on - now there is so much security everywhere that even the person that owns it can get in! ::)

I am so glad you are around to help on these type of issues!
Thanks for all your help - it is ver much appreciated!  :)

Allan, an administrator account is not too hard to set, or understand.

Every person that uses the PC has an account...or uses the one account setup to run ....you know when you start the PC and 1st screen comes up and you select the icon/name on the otherwise background (before a desktop shows up); then windows starts and shows the user's desktop.  If you only have one icon to select then you only have one account. Each account has an icon to select from at start-up.

Once PC is running and you have a start button, toolbar, and desktop....go to start and click on 'control panel' and then 'User Accounts'. That whole  "User Accounts" window is somewhat self explanatory...it tells you if you are an administrator or if you want to change your account type, change icon picture, change name, account settings, etc.  Explore like you would TFP,,,just don't delete an account unless you know what you are doing....most everything else can be changed back or won't hurt much.

If you are not an administrator you cannot do some things; such as install a new program....this is usually setup in a company by IT dept. so regular users don't screw up the PC and for home users to get another level of protection; while using the PC if a virus comes along it has a more difficult time installing a new "program"....but for all practical purposes for a single or two user home PC it gets in the way more than it helps and so most people set their account type as "administrator".  (Otherwise anytime you want to do something you have to log on as another user with admin rights, do the task, then log off)

Though TFP forum is not a PC user group you can't separate the PC from the program software...so it is a reasonable topic to discuss items pertinent to running TFP. So if you or others have a PC tech question; hopefully the users can help with answers in a nice way like all the other questions are handled.

So ask away if any questions...PC tech knowledge is as useful as the programs that run and I probably have a hundred programs installed...maybe more... I never count them....OK just for grins I opened add/remove programs...I have 160 listed programs installed....and I'll add another several in a few days.

Hi Allan,

Glad to be of help!  ;)

I'd like to clarify some concepts, to avoid confusions

As a matter of fact, when you install Windows, the Adm account is created automatically, however, it is highly recommended that the users don't run the computer as Administrators (the computer, settings and programs became too exposed to deletion or misconfig)
Now, a user can create a network with 2  home computers or with 100 company computers, but Win just don't know, so, just in case, if the computers are in a network, you can run the programs as adm without problems but in order to modify the structure (as the OP) you need to Login as adm
You don't need to be an adm to install programs, they just install as a default users (actually many programs ask how would you like to install them)
To put it in easy terms: any person can go to the Outlook email program, write an email and send it but if you wish to change the password, you need to be the adm of this email account

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the clarification!

I think my confusion with it all goes back to the days of Vista, when I was trying to log in as an administrator to be able to access something - can't remember what now and the only way I was able to do it was through the Command Prompt (I think that is what it was called).  You may recall that in the end all the problems were not TFP at all, but Vista, that had got itself into a knot and it had to be reinstalled to sort it out (but I changed to Win7 instead).

Anyway, I am staying well away from such things. To me a computer is like a car - if it is running well, it is fine. If it plays up, I take it to the garage, as I am certainly not a mechanic (or computer technician, as mechanics seem to have to be these days!  ::) )
