Centering windows in a brick veneer wall.

Can windows be centered in a brick veneer wall (see attached) and can default sills be replaced with brick sills.

Hi Bob,

You can centre the window along the wall (so it is in the middle of the room) when you are inserting it - just right click before you insert and choose Centre.

To centre the window inside the wall, which is obviously what you are trying to do, can also be done quite easily. You can flip the window to either side of the wall as you would know (right click 'Flip Opening') but to centre it within the wall you need to set the window's 'Offset' option in the Details tab. (see image).

To define the Window Sill, choose the Wall in your Catalogue, go to the Trim tab, select Exterior Walls, scroll down to Window Sills, click the Select button, choose a sill and modify it or right click and Add a new one. Select the brick texture you want and use the Mapping to move the texture on the surface of the brick so the mortar joints are in the right place. Unfortunately the texture is on the front of the brick not the top, but from a distance it does not look too bad. See the steps in the second image.

If you want the brick sill to slope, you can create a Custom Profile or use the Layout toolbar's Line tool to make one ,which is easier and more flexible. Draw a line about the length you want, around corners if you want (but set it to Mitre). You can stretch/shrink later later if necessary. Right click the line(s) and choose Convert to Members. Choose a Member about the size you want and change the texture, size etc and the degrees of slope. You need to Elevate it to the right height. If you need several just right click, Dulicate, and drag to new positon.
