Post by: rilopategui on December 17, 2009, 06:21:31 PM
Hi all, congrats for this awesome forum.

I'm very very new on TFP and i want to know this:

When I made a floor opening on the 2nd level next to any exterior wall, i saw a hole between both upper and lower walls (of course thickness of floor) and i want to know what can i do to fusion this both walls.

Am I explain correctly? sorry my grammar, i'm from mexico.

There are greats renders on gallery, congrats!!!

Richard.

Hi Richard,

Welcome to the Forum.

Is there any chance of posting an image that shows the problem you are having? I am not quite sure from your description.

If you have the camera 'inside' a wall or floor then it will appear transparent, hence you will see the sky etc.  These elements are in effect transparent from the inside but from the outside of them you should see the texture on the surfaces and edges.

The other thing that comes to mind is the Floor Height - have you got the upper floor level too high, hence a gap between the upper and lower floor walls?  If you used the default floor level settings then it would be OK but if you changed them you may have accidentally left a gap between the levels. You must allow for the thickness of the floor. The Floor Level setting is the TOP of the floor not the bottom. If you have that too high then the lower floor walls will not reach up to it and you will have a gap. Study the settings and the little diagram in Settings/Building Locations.

An image would help to identfy what is happening quicker. If you are not sure how to add the image to the Forum, just click the Additional Options... link under the text entry box.

Hello Allan,

Tksfor your response, I attached a couple of pics, I didn't move the default settings... I have tried very ways: cutting and delimitate the opening on interior border of the wall but.. i'm not satisfied... please check..

And thank you again.. Rich..

Hi Richard,

That helps but I may need to see the BLD file to be sure.  It looks as though you may have cut the opening right through the edge of the floor instead of leaving the piece of floor that is inside the wall in place. In other words you would need to cut the floor only up to the wall, leaving a narrow strip of floor that is in effect inside the wall.  From the outside it probably looks OK as the wall has a "drop face" that would cover the edge of the floor but from inside the 'back' of the drop face becomes transparent.

If that is what you have done then that would explain it- otherwise post the BLD file so I can investigate further.

Hi again Allan,

That's exactly what happen's, the cut of the floor extends inside wall, and i tryed to cut the opening next to inside wall, but it's not so easy if want accuracy, I have change my settings frecuently to obtain exactly cuttings, due to program make movements according Grid Snap when is active. I attached the bld file, even you already told me the correct answer.

Thank you so much, and it's pleasure to me you help me. I have saw your renders and answer's on 32 pages of the forum, are great some tips! helps a lot!

Regards, Rich..

Hi Richard,

You can just extend the opening into the wall, so that you do not get the edge of the opening showing. Then select the lower wall and in the properties tick the Level box (not Auto Extend) and in the field that appears increase the height of the wall so that it fills the gap. It you trun the baseboard off also you can get a continuous wall (if that is what you need).

I found your model interesting and has great potential for some wonderful images.  I just added a couple of downlights in the stairs area and did a few quick renders to see how it looked.  I thought you may be interested to see them.

I noticed you have some gaps around the edge of the ceiling. It you extend the ceiling into the walls (Select the Ceiling  in 3D, switch to 2D Plan, right click Select Previous, then right click Move Edge) should help or it will be fixed usually when you get a roof on.

All the best with it - post some images so we can have a look when you are finished.
