Title: problem installing 637-662 updates under Vista
Post by: cdtupper on January 12, 2010, 10:50:59 AM
I've just upgraded to Vista and re downloaded H&L pro 637 and the 662 update. due to problems I had installing my original 624 copy which wouldn't accept the serial number when I tried to install it under Vista. I had the 624 version and successfully installed the updates under Win2K

When I tried to install the update 637-662. It said I didn't have administrator rights. I do and am an administrator.
I checked the error logs and they didn't give me any help returned an error code 0, which to me indicates a success.

I had a similar experience when I upgraded to a new laptop with Vista.  The link Robert has given explains the importance of a clean install and how to do that manually and you may have to go that far.  You may find however, as I did, that just using the Vista/XP Compatibility Wizard allowed it all to work, so this link may also be helpful http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,931.0.html (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,931.0.html).

If you have 624 installed you must use the 624 - 662 upgrade not the 637 - 662.

1. When I first tried installing my 624 version it wouldn't install as it had problems accepting the serial number.
2. I downloaded the 637 version and installed it fine.
3. I downloaded the 637-662 upgrade and tried to install it. and it wouldn't work. Said I needed admin rights and I am an administrator.

4. On the drive where Vista is installed it was empty before I installed Vista and all the other stuff.

Hi again and Welcome to the forum!

If I understand correctly you have 637 installed (and working presumably?) so the patch is the problem. Once again I had the same issue and despite being logged on as Administrator it still required the Compatibility Wizard to work - did you try that?  I am not a technical person but I gather it in effect changes the settings back to XP ones, bypassing all the extra 'admin access' issues that Vista introduced.

If you haven't done so, try the Compatibility Wizard and let us know how you get one.
