Hi,
I want to put stairs and for that, I need to cut an opening in an automatic floor. Without success. I've been looking at the help topics, followed the instructions but no luck. I've also tried to cut a square area in the 2D view, nothing works.
What am I missing?

Hi, I think you may have to delete the floor and insert one 'By Room'. I had not noticed this before but I was not able to get the option to cut an opening in an Automatic floor - I tried in a new project with Auto floors switched on, and the cut opening option was not there.
Personally I always turn that off, as it is too easy to accidentally insert another one in the same space and end up with two or more. When I deleted your auto floor and inserted one it worked normally.
I was not sure what location your floor was on but by selecting it in 3D, then switching to Plan and Edit/Select Previous, it highlighted it, then right click, Cut Opening - no problem.

Allan I have think about why you cant cut a opening in an Automatic floor. If you think abut how it works, a automatic floor will fill all internal space between external walls, and if you cut a opening, the automatic floor will fill this opening, the opening have no walls. That is the resone you have to manually add the floor by room or pic points. Can it bee so simple?? ::)
Good thought Robert - sounds logical to me!
I don't recall anything in help etc about that though - confusing for a new user (or old one who has forgotten!!)

I was a little wrong abut cutting an opening in a autmatic floor, you have to use Room Division tool. This is the only way to do it whit autmatic floor.
You have more option whit a manual floor
1: define outline of the opening with help of Room Division tool, you must have a enclosed shape. (2D view)
2: open the room in 3D view, click in the middle of enclosed dotted area, the hit delete and you have your opening.
3: you can change the outline, stretch, move and curve as long you not break the enclosed shape (2D view)
I have try it and it work very well and to delete the opening you have only to break the outline

I remember that now you mention it again! I rarely use stairs and never use the automatic floor so obviously had forgotten it.
If the Room Divide works you would think that the Cut Opening would - seems strange. Anyway, problem solved!

I have notis one thing whit automatic floor, it will reset then you build a new building if you turn it off in settings maybe a bug or you have change the default template to automatic floor off.

Hi Robert,
Yes you are right it will reset, as do some of the other Programme Settings.
What you need to do is make all the settings to how you want to work, including Building Locations (For xxample, I have mine set to 3 metre Walls and Ceilings and a number of extra Locations that I always use) and then save the blank project with in the same file location as your master Template. You then select it as you Startup Template (Settings/Programme Settings/General tab).
I know you will know where this is but for any who don't and want to have things always set, I will include an image of it.
