Title: build 662 UK USA
Post by: George Smith on February 25, 2010, 02:29:41 PM
Not a terribly big deal, but..
Why did the update from 624 to 662 change the spelling to the 'UK' style rather than 'US' style (catalogue vs catalog, programme vs program, etc), and how can I change it back?

And 2 more things with this 'patch':

1. now the catalog(ue) takes forever to load/edit/close.  It takes around 30-60 seconds for it to do anything. It used to take about 5 seconds.

2. now there's something wrong with the hidden line & wireframe views in 3d.  The house disappears unless I move the camera up, up, up, and even then only some of it appears, and only at the very bottom of the screen.  It also bogs down & the camera moves slooowwwwly.  Render and outline render modes still work perfectly though.

I've tried rebooting & playing around with settings to no avail.  I'm beginning to dislike this update.

Hi George,

I did notice those spelling changes. I had not registered however that they had gone from UK to US, it just crossed my mind that someone had fixed the spelling mistakes!!!  The program originates in Canada of course, so mybe they have an English migrant working there now who decided to fix the spelling!!

When you mentioned this in the other post I thought it must have been changes in building parts.  For example:  when I first started using TFP I had no idea what some things were.  Baseboard (we know as Skirting Board), eaves drops (Guttering), wainscots (Dado), crown molding (Cornice), opening trim (Architraves), drywall (Plasterboard or Gyprock), overhang (Eaves) etc, etc, etc.  Of course I am not in the building industry and these terms may be used more in that environment but I had not come accross them in my everyday life. From your previous comments I had suddenly thought that there may be a version of TFP where these names were ritght!!  Oh well - I am used to them now!

Re the Catalogue, speed etc.  I have not noticed any change with mine and similarly I did not experience any problems with the wireframe view (not that I use it much).  Do you have Hardware Acelleration on or off? I seem to recall a wireframe issue earlier that was fixed by changing HA and if you have it off it may explain the slower catalogue. Are you still using the patch catalogue or have you switched back to you customised one?

The only things I detected from this patch were positive, although I went from 624 to 637 and later to 662 but that should not make any difference.
