Post by: shutup7742 on March 25, 2010, 11:04:51 AM
Is there a possible way that i can add a map into TFP v14?

I want to add in GIS map if that is possible. or any map at all into the floor plan view. Or is there a map overlay program that can be used?

i'm doing this for like Planning and Zoning.

Hi Christian,

Yes, you can import a map (or a plan to trace).

Go to File  / Import / Project Trace Image.  It will only show up in 2D of course.  You must know the dimensions and size the image accordingly in the program. In other words if the block is 50m across, that part of the image must be 50m in the program.

The image can be turned off in the view filter on the Notation tab.

Hi Christian,

Not a problem - glad to help.

Just another point you may not know. In the view filter, Notation tab, you will see a little 'filter' symbol beside your imported map.  If you click that it will lock or unlock the imported image, so that you do not keeps selecting it accidentally while you are adding walls etc. Once you have positioned it you can lock it in place with this button.

Also, epending on the size of your map, you may want to rezise the Terrain, so that it is bigger than the map. (Settings/ Program Settings/ Terrain tab)

Hope it all goes well.

A map could be used in the 3D mode as well if desired.

Do like you would use a flat object for a picture in a background as explained by Alan a few days ago in another thread...or simply use a "rug" and change the 'rug' image to the 'map' image

Of course you need to adjust the size and height level to suit your needs.

And probably you could import a map image and use it on the terrain in place of green grass.
