Have you ever try to convert roof to surfaces?
There command is on roof-properties: Convert roof to surfaces.
I fund out that you can place to different roofs up on each other on same level without to make a different location , but I have still not fund any practical use to do that but it works.

Yes I have played with converting the roof to surfaces but like you I could not see any practical use for it. True you could have a different tile on one side of the roof but who would do that? It does mean you can resize part of the roof but I still can't think of a situation where you would want to do that. Maybe it makes it easier to extend one side (to make a verandah for example).
It may tie in better if it is used in conjunction with the Surfaces tool, but that seems to work even if you do not convert the roof to surfaces.
I am afraid its real purpose still illudes me!

Hi Allan! I was trying to make 3 gables on one roof, but still no success but I'm very stubborn of me so I think I shall solve it if it works in the program. By the way I have download a copy of the new manual to E6 and it is much than TFP manual even you not can do everything in the TFP program, but you can get 1 or 2 tip.

Hi Robert,
Three gables on one roof needs a double corner as in the image. Use Roof By Picking Points and set these mini edges to Hip and it should work. Needs a similar break on each side of the gables if they are part way along a wall.

Hi Robert,
As Allan has stated, you 'Break' at the corners of the side you would like converted to a Gable IF you already have two other Gables adjacent. Once you place your breaks, I set mine back from the corners so they are more visible in the attached, you then select the center 'arrow' and switch it to Gable.
You should be left with 3 Gables.
Breaking and converting to Gable can be repeated many times on a very long roof , giving 'flush Gable' results.

Hi again Robert,
Now what I want is that hip side of my 3 Gable to create a 'clear story' with glass.
I select the roof and convert it to Surfaces. Then select the 'back' hip roof and see a large arrow. I right click and instead of using Properties I go down to 'Surface Commands' and select Define Surface.
The Define Surface gives me a few options but in this case I know what I want. The 'lower point' must remain at the same height as the rest of the roof, so I select the 'lock' icon. The upper portion of the roof must be high enough to accept windows but I have no particular height I need, but I would like it to be a 12/12 pitch. So I make sure I'm in Slope Type ?in12 (pitch mode) and in the C Slope Value I enter 12.
That automatically raises the upper point, while keeping the lower locked and gives me my clear story. But I would like the clear story roof to 'overhang' the 3 gable roof below, so in 2D plan mode, I just drag the 12 pitch surface to my needed overhang. I add a wall with elevated windows (set to auto extend). Then elevate the wall to the underside of the ridge.
That is just one use for Roof to Surface.

Here is a fun one Robert.
I wanted an upper 'cut in porch', so I converted roof to surface, then under right click 'Surface Commands' used 'Add Surface Node' twice for each side of the 'cut out' for the porch. I then selected on node and pulled it back, then the other and matched it's 'depth back'. This requires the use of line tools to have something to snap to.
As you can see the roof has a nice cut out area in it for a Porch. Then I thought back to being a kid and made more nodes that allowed me to extend the left side down to the ground. Which can act as a great skate board surface in summer, a nice snowboard surface in winter and a sneak out/ in house for teenagers :-)
All done with Roof to Surface.

Now the other kid wants a wider 'ramp roof' for S turns and raised so he can do a flip when he gets to the bottom. The oldest wanted his own balcony with a huge ampitheater type roof so he can play music to his girlfriend a block away.
Yikes, these convert to surfaces are getting me in trouble.
