Can someone help me solve my rendering issue?
My render image gets adjusted to the the size I set in the output options.But when I switch to Modify Viewport from Raytrace or Radiocity mode the image gets minimised into one fourth of the render window leaving other area blank (rather white.)

I have not seen or heard of anything like that before. Maybe it is a display issue. If you have Hardware Acceleration on, try turning it off (Settings / Programme Settings / Graphics ) and see if that helps.

OS - windows xp sp2
Intel core 2 quad
q6600 @2.4Ghz
2.39 ghz @, 3.24gb RAM
I am not sure how to find the info of videocard

Finding the info of videocard: Desktop--> Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties --> Settings --> Advanced--> Adapter--> you can copy and paste the info here
Or, you will find the same info at--> Control Panel--> Display--> Settings--> Advanced--> Adapter
Or--> Control Panel--> System--> Hardware--> Device Manager--> Display adapter
Now, I see that you are running XP SP2, so the first thing you need to do (and ASAP) is a full update of all the drivers, starting with the Windows SP3

Then check the drivers of your video card and also, check the directx version (Go to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer )

Can you post a screen shot or rendered image to show us the problem?
Could it be you are trying to render a large image (like 1200x1024) and you can only see 600x512?

Just one other question (not related to PC Specs) - what is the full version number you are running? (see Help/ About..)
There were some rendering issues with V14 x x x 624. If you have that version you should apply the approprite patch linked at the bottom of the forum (624 - 662). This would need to be done regardless of of any other PC or driver issues. It may fix the problem without the PC changes, although they should probably be done anyway.

I got it solved, in fact videocard drivers were not installed before . XP/OS was installed recently by me in my D drive , and I am afraid some of the driver are yet to be installed

Maybe when you get it all sorted out you can just confirm that it all works OK as it is nice to know how things turn out.
