How can I import/convert FlorrPlan 3D 10 to TurboFloorPlan?
Export as DXF and then import into V12.
The export as dxf from FloorPlan was fine, but in TurboFLOORPLAN I don't see where to import a DXF file.
For import, all I have is: Project Trace Image, or Photo Board Wizard. and to Open files, all I have is: *.bld, or *.bkp
Please ignore me, I am talking utter tripe, not having a good thinking day. As a suggestion, get the free sketchup and import dxf. Save as sketchup file and then import sketchup file into TFPlan. Long winded and a chore, but do-able.
Sorry about my earlier repsonse, I was thinking about v11, as you will probably have guessed by now.
Sorry, I would expect any 'Home Design' program to import *and* export DXF plans...
'Whaddya mean it can't, you gotta go via *** ??'
D'uh...
The Features webpage lists Import DXF http://www.turbofloorplan.com/Products/TurboFLOORPLANFamily/TurboFLOORPLANFeatures/tabid/525/Default.aspx (http://www.turbofloorplan.com/Products/TurboFLOORPLANFamily/TurboFLOORPLANFeatures/tabid/525/Default.aspx)
Note however DXF import may just import as a single object in any case. You will have to wait for IMSI to release a conversion tool to be able to import a v10 or v11 drawing into v12 with walls, doors, windows, roof, etc as separate objects that can be further modified if required.
(Note the DXF Import in v11 was only a tracing layer anyway!)
The question isn't if you can import FPlan v10 to TurboFLOORPLAN now or in the future, the question is why would you want to?
I will be the first to admit I'm wrong if they can make it work, but I don't see how you can import a model made in another program with different methods of defining walls / doors / windows and just about everything else and expect it to be a functional model in the new program.
I don't see walls or windows working properly.
I certainly can't see how the materials list would convert things correctly.
Materials are based on jpgs that would have to be imported along with the model. Did you ever see what happens in TurboCAD with FPlan materials.
I think it is a mistake and waste of valuable Delvelopers time to try such a converstion.
I'd rather see them making import to TCAD work first.
Just do a screen grab of your FPlan work , import it as a trace image into TurboFloorplan and you should be able to create a proper functioning model in one day at the most.
just my two cents.
Fair comment Jack, thanks. I think I got a little bogged down with working out how and forgot to ask myself that 'why?'.
As long as there is a way to do this it should be ok, I do think people are loath to lose time spent on projects done in FPlan which I can understand. In efficiency as in anything else, it is sometimes difficult to see the wood for the trees.
BTW Jack, thanks for doing the things you do to make FPlan and TCad and TFPlan etc easier for people like me (including me) to undestand. I will be getting the training packages as soon as the kitty allows. Right now tho', Bessy is in need of some surgery and I'd better get it done before she rusts into a brown pile on the floor (She is 36 on Novenber 23rd......Shhhhhh). Looking forward to that actually, all those tips to get the mostest from the least effort.

One option is if you still have FP 3d running on your computer, open the building in 2d and save the viewe as a jpg or bmp and the trace the jpg or bmp in TFP.
Robert
I think this is scandalous - if I am encouraged to update from Floorplan v11 to TurboFloorPlan by the supplier it should be possible to import designs from Floorplan v11. Otherwise what is the point of upgrading - there are other products on the market - some even better.
Hi, when FP's UK distributor, Avanquest, replied to my query about availability of TFP_Pro (boxed) as 'probably' via GSP(UK), they mentioned that work *is* on-going to provide a plan conversion utility.
My best guess, given the many differences between TFP and 'Classic' FP is that result may resemble FP's v3 import route: IIRC, you get layers, 'wall trace' and some object outlines...
Not nearly enough, of course, but *MUCH* better than nothing !!

IMHO, 'Classic' FP has several issues that probably forced a major re-coding. I suspect the now-elderly legacy core would have *issues* with Vista and increasingly common 64-bit environments. Many newer facilities were poorly integrated. It lacked support for 'external libraries'. The graphics engine could not be extended to use textures with 'Alpha Channel'. 'Program bloat' meant it was running out of head-room. It certainly cannot access 'large memory', leaving me with a half-finished Medieval-ish project that disk-thrashes while two gigabytes of fast RAM stand idle...
As I said in my e-mail to Avanquest...
" ;-( This is neither time nor place for a long rant about TFP/FP_12 being unable to read FP_6~8~10 plans. Suffice it to say I will have to waste a LOT of time re-drawing my big, Medieval-ish project. And re-import, re-scale, re-texture and re-position a zillion custom 3DS objects. And battle with custom fireplaces, ovens, doors & windows. All before I can take it even one virtual brick further. IMHO, unfair...)"
I'm not happy breaking with 'Classic' FP v6~8~10. In fact, I've studied the competition. For the first time, I could afford to look at

Whats better for the money????
I've done a lot of searching for alternatives, come up blank. Between the discount re-brand / 'room designers' and $1k+ Pro-level, there's really only 3DHA, Punch! and TFP.
I can't see the point of switching to 3DHA. Punch! has integration and stability issues. Which just leaves TFP...
Um, I did find a neat, new program in PC World. It looked a lot like FP_6, had nice import facilities etc etc. But, when I looked closer, it was for Mac !! ROFL !!
Incidentally, I did so scale back my rant to Avanquest: I am *unprintably* furious that I must spend hundreds of hours re-learning and re-working program & plan before I've even got back to where I was...
