I cannot do a radiosity rendering on my Vista Home Premium computer but I can on my old laptop with XP Pro.It stats to render gets up to 45832 polygons and goes no further even using the low fast setting.
Do I need to do a reinstall in a different way?
Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.
Thanks,
John Hope
Hi and welcome, John Hope
Can you describe your computers' specs, OS, videocard, and... (just a guess) can you tell the size of your hard disk as well as the free space after the TFP installation?
Last thing: please, list all the antivirus and / antimalware you use
Pat
Hi John,
I will leave you to discuss the Vista / PC issues to Pat, certainly his domain more than mine!!

Seems strange if will operate on XP and not Vista, which presumably is on a newer and better spec PC. I personally found that I had to install TFP on Vista using Compatibility mode. When I did that it installed and operated normally. How I installed are in reply 3 in this post http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,931.0.html (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,931.0.html).

Is this the same project that had the multiple floors? If so you will recall that I found a corrupt floor/wall. I assume those are fixed? Does it render if you use a new project. Try 4 walls and a roof and see if that renders OK. If it does then the model itself may be the issue. Save the model then try deleting the raised floor and the walls at each side of them and render again. If that doesn't help I could email my adjusted version to see if that works for you. It renders OK for me but my PC is now Windows 7.
If none of that helps the Compatibility Mode install may work or whatever Pat suggests if your PC setup appears suspect.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your offer of assistance.
The computer is a Sony Vaio All in One.
The OS is Vista Home Premium
It has 350 gig hard drive with very little on it.
The ram is 4 gig.
Processor Intel Dual core 2.2ghz
Intel (R0 G45/G43 Express chipset.
Dedicated video memory 128 MB
Unfortunately I did not know that this computer did not have a video card that can be upgraded and there is know upgrade available for this chip.
I have Zone Alarm as a firewall and AVG for virus protection.
Thanks again for any assistance you can render.
John
Hi John,
No problem, I will be glad to help :)
First things first--> Onboard video cards are almost useless for rendering purposes. There is a good reason for this: onboard video cards share the processor with the motherboard, therefore the same processor is used for calculations and rendering. With complex surfaces, this process is almost impossible. In other words, if you have just walls, roofs, etc, the system will work, but if you have furniture, columns , molding , etc, (lots of polygons) the system will crash.
As Allan stated, try to render four walls and please, share the results with us. If it works fine, then the onboard card is the problem . If not, we'll look in other parameters
For onboard files, there is a resource that may work for larger files--> change the color settings from 32 bit to 16 bit
Let us know about the results

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your reply.
I have two other projects I am working on, so I tried to render them.
One is an interior with several rooms including lighting but little furnishings. It rendered OK.
The other was an exterior with some details, columns, shutters, driveway, shrubs & tees, it also rendered OK.
The model that won't render is very detailed.
As Allan suggests it may be corrupt.
I have sent it to him so he can check it out. I thought I had fixed all the parts he had told me about, but I must be missing something.
The one I couldn't fix is my model does not sit on the terrain bust is a long way off and up in the air.
I tried what Allan did. Edit select all and drag to the terrain.
On mine it does not drag.
When you go to render you are looking at the background, not the model.
Could this be part of my problem?
Thanks again for all the help.
John
Hi John,
so we are talking about a file problem and not a Vista problem
Therefore, I think that, if Allan analyzed or is analyzing the file, he is the right person to provide a diagnostic of this issue :)
I'd like to know Allan's diagnostic!!

Hi John and Pat,
The file rendered fine with no adjustments on my Win7, Nvidia graphics PC but crashed on opening on my wife's integrated graphics PC. Good start!!
I fixed a number of wall join issues and deleted several floors in one part of the building and did a repair which changed some textures (!!?). I also dragged the building onto the terrain (you have to turn Collision off also - sorry John I forgot to mention that one) but despite these adjustments it still crashed the integrated graphics PC. Next I deleted all the furniture and guess what - it opened it and rendered it with no problems and very quickly too.
I don't know which item was the problem but I have see cabinets inserted in the same space cause big problems, so maybe it could be that. I would suggest you delete bits of the furnishings and members (or just turn them off) until you come across the one causing the problem.
The render from the integrated graphics PC is below. I did not apply some of the textures so looks a bit odd in places but as you can see it worked fine.
The changes I did and my adjusted file I have emailed back to you John - Let us know how you get on with it .
