I have done some test whit the new Google SketchUp 8, if you export 3ds to SketchUp8 and save it as skp8-file it will not work then I import same 3ds file as a skp 8 file to TFP, but you can make a element in SketchUp 8 and save it in skp8 format and import it to TFP 15. That is strange I think. So it maybe a setup-problem or it is the file-size in the new SketchUp8 to big for TFP15 to import but I'm not shure.

I think it need some more testing to find out

So if you have Google SketchUp 7 keep it to there is a fix to TFP15, so you can import skp8 files correct

You will not be able to read skp v8 files because the filter for skp files is set to v7 and I do not even think earlier versions will be usable either. Not just in this program, it is common practise. If you want to use sketchup v8, just save as an skp v7 file under 'save as'.

Yes, I know that, but I madea simple skp8 file direkt in SketchUp and it import to OK TFP 15 , but a file you first import to SketchUp 8 and save as a skp8 file and later import to TFP15 will not work. This is the paradox!

Sorry Robert, just going through the ismplest methods. I used to save as autocad 2000 and found that much easier.
Hi again, I only try to test if you can use the new SketchUp 8 with TFP15.
This time I try to import the skp8-file that worked befor will it not work, and I have a lot of old skp-file, what worked befor, this will not work, if you not reopen TFP15 again.
It look like if you try to open a SketchUp 8 file it will lock TFP 15 so you cant open old skp-files whitout to reopen TFP.
So my varning is still don't download the new SketchUp 8 before TFP15 is up to date with the SketchUp 8 files.

Do you man that if you import a SKP8 file into TFP you can, but you then cannot import a SKP7 or 6 file unless you close TFP and open it again - then you can import SKP6 or 7 files? Is that correct?

Just now have I both SketchUp 7 and 8 on my computer but in diffrent catalogs, it can be the reson why I culd import SKP8 files to TFP then I try first time, after I restar my computer I can't import SKP8-file, if I try, TFP15 will crach or hang up so I cant open old files I have saved on computer.

I think that is very important to clarify this issue. It is not a catalog problem
Sketchup V8 was released this month, (09/04, if memory helps). So, it was released few months after TFP V15
Therefore TFP 15 imports *.skp objects V7 or older versions--> V7 was the current version when TFP was released
Now, a patch allowing *.skp V8 objects in TFP V15 would be great, but in the meantime, "Save As" is the very easy solution --> Download / install the new Sketchup V8 --> take advantage of the new features ;) --> develop your object --> Save As Version 7 --> import your object in TFP without problems
I did several tests (please see attached) --> Following the procedure above, the object developed with Sketchup V8 and Saved as V7 imports without problems --> The object developed with Sketchup V8 and Saved as V8 doesn't work and more, it will crash the program

I realised you could save as an earlier version but I got the impression that the problem Robert had was that a TFP created 3DS, when converted to SKP, could not be imported. Maybe he saved it as SKP8 and that is why it failed.

It is good to know that it does work in a Save As V7. I was reluctant to install V8 in case the save as V7 didn't work for 3DS imports and afraid that installing V8 would overwrite V7. Does it overwrite it?

V8 doesn't overwrite V7 so you can install both V7 and V8 in your computer, however, in your case and after reading the new chapter of the saga :o , I agree with you: don't rush to install V8
Update: just read the saga's update so the overwrite is not an issue now... (LOL)
