I would expect that the height dimensions would be shown when displaying elevated views. I must have a specific maximum roof height, but short of manually measuring up from the terrain and computing the roof height by applying the slope I don't know what else to do. Program does not let me manually measure this distance. Why are there no dimensions on the elevated views?

Hi Don! Welcome to forum, ther is no ways to display height in elevated or 3D, but Jack have made a messuring stick look in this post http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1068.msg5168.html#msg5168.
But ther is an other way to set a specific height and that is to use the propertis for the roof, exprement with diffrent values and some math.

All the normal vertical dimensions are pre-set of course in the Building Locations function (Settings / Building Locations) so the lower edge of the roof is determined by the wall height, although this can be adjusted after it is inserted or course, using the Properties as Robert said. I take it that your problem is that the top of the roof itself has to be a certain height regardess of the slope (?). Determining this in 3D is difficult, hence Jack's measuring stick, but in addition to Roberts comments, there is another way, that sounds messy but will measure the exact height of the roof for you.
The process involves doing it in 2D, by exporting the elevation as a 2D drawing (File/Export as DXF) and import it again using the File/Import / Object Wizard. Once you have it in your model (or a second one just for the purpose) you can use the Tools/ Dimensions/ Linear Dimensions to add the dimensions in 2D. This will tell you exactly what any distance is. As I said however, you still have to go back to the 3D original to alter it and repeat the process to measure again. You might find the PDF in this post useful (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,877.0.html (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,877.0.html)), as it give full directions and how you can create sets of plans in this way.
If you do import the 2D DXF into your main model, position it off to the side and just delete it again afterwards.

You can add up to get ridge height. You can also add a column to check. If you add a column make sure you lower it (elevate) to the ground first.
If you want to add things up to find the ridge height, first go to Plan view and measure the distance from the outside of the wall to the ridge (longest horzontal 'run')
Now open up your roof properties and under F - Horizontal Distance, enter the dimension you took. This will change the G (Vertical Distance Dimension...). Jot down the new G dimension.
Now add everthing up. Height above ground = 12", Wall Height = 8'. Under Support and Details tab the raised heel height is 7 11/ 16" (I used 8"). Then add in the 'G' dimension, which in this example is 7' 8 1/2" or 92.5 for calculation purposes.
All these items add up to 17'4", which is ridge height.
Note how the brown column lowered to -12" and set to 17'4" matches the ridge height in the attached jpg.

Thank you all for your replies. I guess I am a bit old school where we had the front, top, and side views each of which displayed the proper dimensions - H / W / L.
I don't know how the builder will know any of the heights without without them displayed on the drawing. I can live with it, it just seems alien to me.

Hi Don,
The main purpose of TurboFloorPlan 3D is to create visualisations of the model, not prepare plans, so it is not optimised to do that. That is the role of its parent program Envisioneer, which will produce the full construction drawings using the same 3D front end. If you were to open your model with Envisioneer you would have full access to those tools, but at MUCH greater expense.
You can however achieve essentially the same function in TFP and add as many vertical dimensions as you want, by using the technique described in the PDF I referred to earlier - your builder will then be perfectly happy. (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,877.0.html (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,877.0.html)), It sounds a bit complicated but it is not really. You simply display each elevation and export it under its own name as a DXF file. Once you have done that, you import each view again into a new blank project and you can then add all the dimensions you want in any direction along with any text descriptions. (Use the View Filter to make the imported files 'not selectable' so you do not keep moving them or put your dimensions on a different Location or Layer).
Below is a simple example where I have done that for a cabinet design.
