I bought turbo floorplan deluxe v15 from the website back in late October.
I have yet to be able to run the software, as it persistently crashes on startup, but haven't had time until now to look at the problem.
What I've tried:
rebooting
the clean uninstall instructions on the support website.
updating my video drivers from ATI Catalyst 10.6 to Catalyst 10.10.
redoing the clean install

Brief system details:
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
4GB ram
Althon 64 X2 dual core 5600+
ATI radeon HD 2600XT
I am not overclocking any aspect of the system, and it is generally rock solid
staying on 24/7 and rebooting only when I choose to reboot after updates.
System diagnostics:
I've run memtest86 on the machine many times, no issues.
dxdiag has no complaints.
Windows Experience index runs fine, (index comes up 5.9)
3Dmark vantage runs fine on the machine. (slow due to older video card - p1557 marks 4193 cpu/1287 video, on par with similar systems w/ same card, but this shows DX 10 works and drivers are not crash prone)
AV scans come up clean.
Any suggestions here?
Hi and welcome to the forum.
I am not a computer wizard so I will leave the technical side to Pat orothers who are technically inclined. You seem to have covered most things Ok and provided lots of information for diagnosis, which will help them. There are a couple of things however that sometimes help that you do not mention that you have tried, so....
Did you try runing it with Administrator rights? (Right click the exe file and select Run As Administrator)
Did you try running it in XP campatibility mode? TFP itself is OK I think but the Windows Installer seems to have the compatibility issue in some circumstances (from what I have been able to glean from previous threads).
If it starts at all, try running it with Hardware Accelerartion turned off (Settings / Programme Settings / Graphics).
If you don't get that far try turning down Hardware Acceleration a notch or two on the video card itself, then try starting it.
Let us know how you get on with those.
Allan
Hi mkettler,
The first thing to keep in mind is the fact that TFP is a 32 bit program. I use TFP with a Win 7 - 64 bit system (without problems), however, perhaps, in some systems, this can be an issue
Now, I have a ATI 2600 and, IMO is the best videocard I used, so far. I use it with full accelerations
I'd suggest these steps
1 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK
For Windows 7 --> Right Click on your desktop --> Personalize --> display --> Change Display settings--> Advanced
2 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color")
3 - Go to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer
4 - If the problem persists--> change the color settings from 32 bit to 16 bit
5 - I know that you ran AV scans but some trojans are very tricky. Run Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html (yes, run both, they are free). They use to find different things
Additional note: the last ATI update for your card is the 10.11 driver http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.2&lang=us&rev=&ostype=Windows 7 - 64-Bit Edition#1 (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.2&lang=us&rev=&ostype=Windows7-64-BitEdition#1)
Let us know about the results

Allan- Yes, I've tried run as administrator and also XP SP3 compatability mode
Draftcad -
1) Why are you suggesting an OpenGL setting? AFAIK this app is DirectX and changing OpenGL settings will have no affect. I'll try it, but I'm wondering what the logic is.
2) I normally run in 32-bit, and Win 7 tries to hide the fact that anything else is possible. I'll try 16 bit per idea 4.
3) This is Windows7, thus by definition I'm using Direct X11 (this is mandatory when Win 7 is installed, and no newer version exists, therefore all Win 7 boxes have DX 11). FWIW, A better way to check the DirectX version is: start->run dxdiag.exe
5) I know malware can be tricky. I'm both a programmer and network admin by trade, and have tangled with some pretty sophisticated malware several times. I regularly run SpyBot, Bitdefender and MalwareBytes already, along with Secunia PSI (vulnerability auditor) but I'll re-do fresh run tonight. I'll also do a boot-cd run of BitDefender.. again.
I'll try 10.11... when I first started messing with this in October, 10.10 was the newest.
Results to follow shortly

To Force Zbufferdepth to 16 bit force --> I work with 3D graphics and I am setting hardware since 2001--> logic or not, this setting works ;)

Well
1) There is no OpenGL force 16-bit on my Catalyst drivers, the only OpenGL option is triple buffering
2/4) Switching to 16 bit mode did not change anything
5) I'm about to do the boot scan, but malwarebytes found nothing, Spybot only found a handful of browser cookies, but those are not malware that will impair the functioning of the system. Removing the cookies did not change the crash.
upgrade to Catalyst 10.11 did not change the problem.
I also tried disabling BitDefender, temporarily, to see if it was interfering in some way.. still crashed.
I further tried using app compatibility settings to force 256 color mode... still crashed.
I should also note that this crash is very quick. I never see any part of Floorplan's window come up.. I launch it, wait about 2 seconds with a "busy" cursor, and a crash notification comes up.
Usually, you should be able to force the Zbuffer depth to 16 bit or to 24 bit.

Perhaps, there is some type of interference with the video card.
I'd recommend to uninstall and perform a new and clean installation. If the problem persists, IMSI offers free TA for installation issues
Pat
There is no such option in the 64-bit windows 7 10.10 or 10.11 catalyst control center when using a Radeon HD 2600 XT.
See attached.
A bit of web research shows that this card does not support 16-bit z buffers at all. ATI has dropped support for low-resolution z buffers in many of their new cards.
I was hoping to avoid contacting IMSI tech support (or perhaps hoping they monitored this forum), as the free install support seems to be phone-only and during hours which aren't particularly convenient. (few support lines are open at 9pm-12am when I have most of my free time, so that's not really their fault)
Problem solved.
TFP is apparently fatally incompatible with Windows Data Execution Prevention being enabled.
For Win 7 users:
start-> right-click on computer-> properties
click advanced system settings
go to the advanced tab
In the performance box, hit settings
go to the data execution prevention tab
disable DEP, or add an exclusion for TFP's exe file. (I did the later, but that is more advanced).
Apparently this is not a new problem, and also affects v14:
