I have set up to draw a 400mm cavity wall comprising of:
-interior block (100mm)
-cavity (100mm)
-exterior stone/block (200mm)

I already understand from a previous post that I cannot, in TurboFloorPlan alter the specs of the wall. i.e. I can only use the default wall, however I AM able to adjust the overall wall thickness (which is 400mm). 

Now even when I set the wall thickness to, say 400mm, and then take a dimension of the wall, as you can see in the attachment, the wall thickness is not 400mm.

I am only guessing here, but I can see from the view of your screen that you are using the latest version of TFP. It looks like V12 or V14. Both these versions add the veneer automatically when the walls create an enclosed space (a room). If you have set the Core thickness to 400mm (as you have to do in V15 - as per other posts) TFP 12 and 14 will still add a veneer, which in the case of the wall you are using must presumably be pre-set to 95mm, giving you a total of 495mm.  If this is the case, then set the Core to 305mm and you should get a 400mm wall.

If you would like I could create a veneer wall to the actual specifications you want that should work depending and the version and import capabilities. It should give you the correct added veneer (200mm?) and the cavity (100mm?) and you would set the Core to only 100mm.  It will show the walls as you draw them at only 100mm thick but as soon as they join to form an enclosed space it will add the 100mm cavity and 200mm stone veneer.

If that is what you would like please confirm the exact dimensions for each component of the wall and also whether you want to show an interior lining (eg plaster face - how thick?).

Also, please let me know what version you are using and whether you have an "Import BIM File" option on the File/ Catalogues menu. These two points could determine whether you will be able to import it or not.

OK, I am actually in TFP V12 and I do not see an Import BIm file optionin File/Catalogs. See attached screenshot.

You are correct. If possible, would like a wall with following dimensions:
-100 mm internal CMU block
-100 mm cavity
-200 mm external natural stone veneer

I also have a side question - as you can see from my screenshot, I have drawn a wall but on one side it shows an air gap but on the other side there is no air gap. They are both the same wall (Masonry). I was wondering whats dictating the fact that ones showing an air gap and ones not.

NOTE: I set the wall core thickness to 305mm since per your post it adds the 95mm veneer automatically. After checking inner to outer total dinension, the wall with the air gap showing has a total thickness of ~426mm but the wall with no air gap shows a total thickness of 397 (close enough to 400 anyway!)

I thought it must be V12 as I think V14 was when all the screen button were redesigned and made bigger. Seemed at the time to waste a lot of space but I suppose I must have got used to them.

The BIM file is an  international standard for transferring elements between catalogues and are often produced by manfactureres of the various products so that architects etc can easily add their product into the plans. Unfortunately without this import provision it will be somewhat more difficult to provide the wall in a way that you can use it.  V12 does have a "Save Element to Catalogue" so if I can getthe right wall into a BLD file you can open,myou should be able to save it to your catalogue. Anyway leave it with me and I will see what I can do. May take a day or two to organise it. 

When the 95mm Veneer is added to the Core of the wall it adds (normally!) the cavity too which is by default 25mm.  This would explain the width of 426mm. Just wondering how you are measuring it - it should be exact. Are you using the Tape Measure in the Tools menu?  Zoom in really close so you can position it exactly on the line.

I cannot explain why the cavity shows on one wall and not the other, without seeing the actual file. I would be curious to see the file if you don't mind posting it on the forum as it seems odd. (or email it to me if you prefer  - alches (AT) iinet.net.au)

the cavity on one wall may be a video card issue, so if Allan doesn't find any TFP issue, I'd like to see an image of the problem or the file

see attached .doc with a print screen of what I am seeing. I drew two boxes to show you that I am getting the 25mm cavity on one wall type but not the other.

These wall types were already preloaded and called something else in TFP. I just renamed the wall to "400mm no air gap" and "300mm with air gap" walls to differentiate. I wondered is the Airspace check box with "Enable" solid fill in the "Appearance" tab had anything to do with it..but when I check and uncheck the option, it doesn't seem to do anything different.

The wall type properties seem to be the same. Masonry...core thickness set to different sizes obviously...but why is one wall type showing a cavity and one is not?

Hi again,

I have attached a BLD file that contains a Veneer Wall to your specifications. 100mm Internal 'Core', 100mm Cavity and 200mm Veneer (the latter two components being added automatically when an enclosed space is created). The only way to vary the width of the wall is to adjust the Core - the additional 100mm Cavity and 200mm Veneer are fixed and automatically added.

To add this wall to your catalogue, open the attached BLD file. It was saved in V12.1 (V12.01.C2.586 to be exact). If you cannot open it and you get the message "can't open because it was created in a later version" (or something like that) you may need to apply the appropriate V12 patch at the bottom of this page: http://www.imsidesign.com/Support/TurboFLOORPLANSupport/tabid/515/Default.aspx (http://www.imsidesign.com/Support/TurboFLOORPLANSupport/tabid/515/Default.aspx) to upgrade your copy to V12.1.

When you open the file there will be just a 4 wall enclosure. Go to File / Catalog / Save Element To Catalog and then click on one of the walls in the plan.  The wall should be added to your catalogue.  If any of that does not work take a note of the messages you get - the screen dumps are great! (By the way, you can post them as JPG's straight to the forum if you want, rather than putting them in a Word document).

The reason you do not see any difference when you tick Enable Solid fill, is because you must tick the box for the relevent sections of the wall (or all of them - Exterior, Left Interior, Right Interior and Openings - on the Appearance tab - hold the shift key to select them all at once) and you must also tick the box in Settings / Programme Settings / Building Aids). The latter is a master control that enables or disables the solid fill on any individual walls where it is enabled.

From Pat's post above it sounds like it could be a Graphics card issue that is causing the cavity to disappear on some walls. You may want to post the BLD file here first for me to check but if you have simply used the standard wall and inserted all the walls at one time ,then it seems it could be the card issue. Pat will help you with that. It will be interesting to see if the new wall above does the same thing.

I hope the new wall does what you want.
