OK, this is driving me crazy. My house was built with a classic hip-roof style, then the previous owner added on a room in the back with only a low-angle (flat) roof above it. The low-angle roof joins into the hip roof about 18" above the original dripline. For the life of me, I cannot seem to create a custom segment for this which is just purely flat. Even with a custom-roof type segment, where I spell out one and only one straight section, TFP always creates a more-complex roof section than I want. I usually end up with some weird compound roof section.
I'm sure I am missing something trivial. Any suggestions on how to do what I want?

JP, I feel your pain. Here is what I'm up against...
I'm trying to join two gable roofs together at right angles to each other.....can't seem to find a way to do it without one roof going through the other and showing up on the inside. This is a straight forward construction project using rafters in real life.
This is the closest I came up with. Is this close to what you were looking for?
I could only get that shed roof to a 1deg angle (not quite flat).

Can you give us an image of the idea you want...even if its a .bld file with no or one roof...others can better understand what you are trying to do.
Also, if you have used FP 10 or 11, many of the same methods work the same in TFP (the menus and keystrokes may be different)....so you can try the FP forums for help as well, just do a search.
But others here can help when the problem is understood.

Maybe I now understand your question (two gable roofs at right angles to each other) as I'm trying to mesh together two roofs...very common construction and I solved part...see attached .jpg image and the .bld file to play with.
I want the two white roofs to blend into the dark roof...I tried extending the roof ends and the overhang but it gets cut-off by the wall for the dark roof (which I selected in a roof button choice to get this far). Of course I don't want a roof inside the tall room from the side room...but for an exterior view it would be OK and I've done that in FP10 by using different locations...is that the same solution here or does TFP have a more elegant/correct solution?
Gosh that makes me think that Envisioneer people must have solved this before....maybe we should join the Envisioneer forum to look for solutions??? Anyone know how to be a "read-only" at Envisioneer?

well visually you use the dormer tool maybe it look right I think.
this is what I came up with. once a ceiling is in it should look good from the inside.

This is *exactly* what I wanted to do ... Thanks! How did you do it? I've tried using a shed roof, but the roof shapes available (Hip, Gable, Mansard, Double, etc) don't match my problem. Every time the roof solution brings up a facet from each edge ... not what I want.

Thanks but that was not what I was trying to do.
I wanted the two light roofs (you can see wood inside them because no wall inserted in gable ends) to extend toward each other to meet the existing dark roof and blend into the dark roof like you have shown the dormers to blend into the roofs you inserted the dormers into.

EDIT: but maybe if I replace my white roofs and try to place dormers on top of walls? or the dark roof and extend them over the other sides? hmmm naybe worth a try.

JP, check this thread out it will explain how to do a shed roof. You can also change the slope type to degrees and you can go down to 1deg, that makes a almost flat roof. I'm sure there is a way to make a totally flat roof but I'm not really sure how to do that. I'll see what I can find and get back to you.

The lightbulb finally came on. It's easy once I realized how to edit each edge. BTW, the roof is actually not flat, it's low-angle (~2.5 degrees), so this is just perfect. Thanks again,
