Title: How do I create angled cabinets?
Post by: sprybry on January 16, 2011, 01:32:30 PM
I have not done any FP work for 4 years now and I was on FP version 8 at the time.  I just downloaded v15 Pro trial version and I am in need of some help and advice.  I cannot seem to figure out how to create a cabinet that is angled.  I have an island in my kitchen which is at a 45 degree angle.  Left side has a sink, right side has a dishwasher and then there is a single cabinet next to that with four drawers.  This island also has a bar seating all along the back of it.  Can someone give me some advice and guidance as to what the best approach would be to design this island?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Insert a normal cabinet and place it near the final location, set to proper desired width for the angle

with ortho turned off, rotate cabinet to 45 degrees or desired

with collision turned off, slide cabinet into place; align to overlap cabinets on either side to make counter-top without missing parts...or use flat extra pieces to fill-in any holes where cabinets don't meet

When you render, the cabinets should blend together

If you still have problems, after trying, ask for more guidance....I have some old pics as examples....been the same way for several older versions.

Hi Bryan
You can make a angle cabinet, in catalog.
Click on cabinets in the toolbar
Then the catalog show cabinets, right click in any place of the catalog and add a element if you scroll to the right you have a angle cabinet there, you can now customize the cabinet

I don't have v14 and don't remember if earlier versions did what you want.

I don't remember ever being able to change the size of counter-top (width or depth) independent of the base.

But 3 ways around it....

- install cabinet, make cabinet part of material = transparent....voila, you have just a top

- install a "member" item (cube) and size, place, rotate, materials as needed....may need one for back-splash (no nose)....may have issues inserting a sink

- use alt 3D program of find a BIM file or .3ds or similar to make or import what you need...SketchUp often useful.

Sorry but this is a known bug - the Countertop is not editable in V15!
Until it is fixed you could use the Floor tool to create what you want. See this post : http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1297.0.html (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1297.0.html).

thank you Allan;
I tried the floor program to make the demo curtain Pelmet! It is great to know, but when I put it into my floor plan, you can't click on it after words, But when I put it in the v14 floor plan I can click on it to change it! It seems to be another glitch in the v15

Hi Benny,

Did you export as a 3DS and import again directly into the Catalogue?  If you did there should not be any problem selecting it again in V14 or V15.

I am doing this all the time in V15 and have not had any issues. Are you sure you were on the same location as the object when you treid to select it? Are you sure you did not have Interior Accessories (or whatever section of the catalogue you put it) set to non-selectable in the Vew Filter? (maybe accidentally?). Total size, textures etc should all be still editable in V15.

Hi Allan;
OOPS! Yes I had the non-selectable on in the View Filter?
Sorry about that !
Thank you for the help!
Now I can design my Island for the house and import it ! That will solve my problem about the counter top!
